Hall Beckley Canyon 3AIII

Hall Beckley Canyon drops steeply down the south face of Mount Lukens into La Canada/Flintridge. It is a moderately challenging, quite brush-free canyon with several big rappels and lots of small downclimbs. Water runs in its lower reaches most of the year but there are no substantial pools to negotiate so only your feet will get wet. See beta online at www.dankat.com. We will meet at the street closest to the canyon exit point. We will make a group decision whether to do a car shuttle or hike up the fire road.

Good beginner-friendly canyon with lots of fun down-climbing and no rope-pull issues. We opted to hike up the fire road instead of the car shuttle. It took us 1:30 to get to the drop-in. Our group of 3 took 7 hours from car to car. The webbing on the first anchor was compromised so we backed it up with a meat anchor and LAMAR down-climbed most of it. Warning - the fire road up is south-facing so it would be dreadfully hot on a sunny day.

Hey Guys, any last min updates? I am assuming we are still all meeting at the street closest to the canyon exit point or we planning on meeting anywhere else. Looking forward to it. Rock on!

Yeah I would skip the shuttle and just hike up the fire road. We did this back in December: http://vccanyoneering.blogspot.com/2012/12/10-08-2012-hall-beckley-canyon.html

FYI: a group of us did this a few years back and we used the 4x4 trail to hike to the drop in point, thus avoiding the car shuttle. Doing it this way adds almost 1.7 miles of hiking and about 700 ft of additional climbing. We did the hike in about 1 hour 30mins. Our trip details are here: http://www.meetup.com/ACA-Canyoneering/events/45091442/

    Have fun.
