Long approach, poison oak, and log-choked...but still a classic.

Experienced canyoneers and hikers only please.

It's a wet canyon, but wetsuits won't be necessary.

Everyone is responsible for their own safety.

Required gear:

TEAM: 100' rope, 120' rope, 50-70' rope, 50' webbing, 4 rapides.

I'll bring a 200' rope, 40' webbing, and 4 rapides. We will need another rope. You're welcome to bring whatever gear you have and we can figure it all out at the trailhead.

INDIVIDUAL: harness, helmet, descender, prusiks, locking biners, neoprene socks, drybag, headlamp, food/water, and any other personal gear.

Trailhead:

GPS: 34.29728, -118.16995

Park in the dirt turnout. We will start the approach at 7am, so please arrive a little early to prep.

Tiring, but fun. Good job Mark. I'm not itchy either ;) It was fun.

A tiring day, but the technical section makes the slogs at the beginning and end worth it. Good canyon, good people...and I'm not itchy!!!

Mark, thanks so much for waiting and shuttling me at the end. Great group, we managed the beautiful technical section with ease. Double does of Technu when I got home last night, I'll see about the itch in a few days!

Touch approach, but had a great time out there nevertheless, can't wait to see the pics! And to answer the question, there's poodle-dog in the canyon, but it's avoidable.

Looks like you guys are bringing all the gear. I have a 200' 8.3mm rope & a 200' pull cord. Let me know if you guys need me to bring any of those. Otherwise I'll bring 30' of webbing & some rapides and I'll obviously help carrying the ropes.

Bring your 8.3. We might use that as backup instead cuz it's light and stuff

More beta here. Mark, Please confirm that this is our approach, the one that drops off the fire road and traverses the "bench"

    • mark

Thanks Young. We'll use your rope as a back-up.

Sounds good, I'll shoot for 6:40ish at the trailhead.

    Mark & Young,
Group Gear: Rope: My shortest rope, currently, is a 100'er. I'll bring that unless I hear otherwise. Sounds like you guys will both have 200's? I also have a 200' pull cord if you want to leave one of the full size 200's behind. Webbing/Rapides; I'll have my standard 30' of webbing and 5 rapides along for the ride.
Personal gear: as listed, plus a GPS, water filter, and first aid kit. The Kicker: I'll be starting at 6:00 and meet you when ever you catch up to me cause I move pretty slow up hill. First rap at the latest, but I'm sure it will be earlier. That's best for all involved.

Go ahead and bring the 100'. If you feel you're slow and want to get a head start, that's fine; but could you just wait on the fire road before you make the overland westward approach to fox creek. I'd like us to be together for that part.

      Will do.

you mentioned poison oak, but also the Poodle-dog Bush is all over the place up there, watch out: http://www.rei.com/share/rei-bl...

Have fun! Last few visits we never really re-bagged the rope since most of the rappels are back-to-back-to-back. This allowed us to set the next rappel pretty rapidly without the need for a 3rd rope.

Odd, as we saw tons on the fire road section of the approach before reaching Fall Creek. That was 2 weeks ago and all throughout this season.

    • Young

Well, I'll throw some Tecnu in the bag anyways, haha

I had RSVP-ed for another event on the same day.

Howdy Zach .. hate to do this, but you've really got to take a canyoneering course so you can participate as more than a passenger on these canyoneering adventures. I'm going to change your rsvp ... sorry. Klaus
