Friction, Locking Off & Self Rescue!
...so you know how to rappel!? This workshop takes it a step further and teaches how to add friction pre-rappel with specific devices, how to add friction mid-rappel with specific devices and a way that works with ANY device! In addition we will learn a device specific lock-off and a generic lock-off and how to do a basic SELF-RESCUE! Consider this Part 2 of the 'Learn to Rappel' workshop. This workshop is in no way a substitute for the full Technical Canyoneering Course (offered regularly on http://www.meetup.com/canyoneering) , but it will help you get more out of the full course. This workshop does, however, provide you with additional tools for your mental toolbox. These tools will help you determine how much friction you need based on circumstances and conditions; tools to help you if you find you need more friction in the middle of a rappel; and tools to help you go 'hands free' in the middle of a rappel for a self-rescue or simply to take an awesome photo.
We will spend the whole day rappelling at Stoney Point in Chatsworth.
I will bring descenders for you to practice with: Piranas and Figure 8s.
That's all we're going to do ... all day. So ...
