Great Falls of the Fox 3BR IV

Experienced or Trained only!

If this is your first canyon please do not sign up for this event.

This is my favorite canyon in Big Tujunga.

This is not an easy hike and approach. It will take about two hours just to get to the shortcut, hence the early start time. The approach on the shortcut is narrow, high and on a steep slope, good hiking skills are required. Once in the canyon there will be allot bushwhacking over fallen trees, logs and thick brush-with that said once we hit the first rap, the canyon opens up to a technical and magnificent granite gorge.

Group gear:
2 x 200' Rope
120' Rescue Rope
Webbing & Rapides
First Aid Kit

Participation is at the discretion of the event host.

THIS IS NOT A GUIDED TRIP YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, YOUR OWN GEAR, AND HELPING TO PROVIDE AND/OR CARRY GROUP GEAR. IF IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO BUY A ROPE, TALK TO KLAUS!

Sam, buddy. I've got your wet suit for you. (Unless you went back and found yours, in which case I now have a wet suit myself.) Give me a call @[masked] to arrange a trade. Have unmarked $50 bills ready. ;-)

Best Fox yet! the canyon floor was pretty much cleared out with plenty of flow in the canyon-cold water and deep pools. Great group everyone moved through this one fast-finished the last rap at 2:30..very nice.

Says the guy who was shivering! Lol.... Wetsuit not absolutely needed if it's sunny out and you catch the tech section with the sun overhead. Avoid getting soaked by bringing a shell. Neo for the feet would be helpful.

Ha! good to know guys. I did it a few weeks ago with raingear and will do the same this weekend. big difference this time is i will now have the 5.10 canyoneers with neo :)

So who's bring what? There's no sense in everyone bringing rope- two 200"? and my 120"

    • John G.

I glassed the last rap from the road this morning, still a decent amount of flow, should be fun.

I'm bringing my 120'' rope. This is a good size of experienced canyoneers and don't foresee any problems with us getting out by 4ish. We all meet at the Ralph's market at 7 am and decide if we want to consolidate cars and carpool up. The meeting time is not carved in stone, so if anyone is running late please call me[masked] if you are running late and don't call I'll assume your not coming and we will leave.

Sorry David, that may have been from me splashing you on the waterfalls :) you guys enjoy! Watch out for the oak!

Last time we did this one was in January and it was chilly but nothing warranting a wetsuit. This canyon gets very little sunlight and the pools can be cold-everyone can bring what they like.

I hope we get rain before this trip. I have been through GFF a dozen times and I still love it.
