My guess is the Academy will pick Henry because it's the most emotionally moving short. Thanks Roxanne for organizing the event!

I liked curfew too, but the last, somali one was also cute. The others were too dark for me but the academy must go for that given this lineup. Glad i saw them with such nice company!

That was visually interesting, but for me so over the top it almost felt like a Woody Allen or SNL takeoff on the over-wrought foreign movie genre al la Bergman!

I liked "Asad" too Ellen. For me that was the least predictable film in the line-up. I loved how in portraying the reality of such difficult, precarious living circumstances for Somalian refugees the film maker let the values of honesty, loyalty, hope and humor shine through. Great choice to end the shorts with!

I'm guessing the academy may pick Death of a Shadow for the Oscar. Did you all recognize lead actor Matthias Schoenaerts from Rust & Bone in that one? I didn't until the credits rolled and was very surprised!!!

Thanks for organizing, Roxanne! How can you compare these films? I think they were all well done. I had read a prediction that the US film "Curfew" will win, but I think the Canadian film "Henry" could get it.

I agree Sue, the short film genre is so difficult to compare because each is so different. I wonder if Henry's reminiscence to feature length foreign nominee "Amour" will help or hurt it with the academy voters. The film that was least predictable and most hopeful for me was "Asad" but I'm guessing the academy won't pick that one.

I enjoyed the films a lot even with all the dark themes. I think "Curfew" or "Henry" will probably win.

I'm in now. The message first said that there were 6 spots left. I immediately rsvp'd yes, at which point the pop up message read that unfortunately the spots were filled as I RSVP'd. I thought it was weird, and a little later, a message on email said there were spots left, so I again rsvp'd yes, it accepted it.

I think it might be more of an issues that the RSVps closed at a certain time vs. the size of the group, if I'm reading the info correctly

If anyone decides to not go, please let me know. Just as I was RSVP'ing, it filled up! Tnx
