I told a few friends of mine that I was gong to attend a Big Lebanese party at Michael's last Friday and they reminded me that we had done Lebanese when we went off sushi in 2009 and had 2 parties at the Phoenicians. They asked if I would do it again.
So I thought, what better way to deal with an Irish hangover the day after St. Patrick's Day than to move further East and check out a culture known for food and fun.
This is being cross-posted with the Albany Sushi Meetup Group. I have had other Meetups want in so if this is as good as I think it is, we will do it again and really soon.
Although it won't be like Michael's, (Live Band and very expensive entertainment and one of the finest Middle Eastern parties I have ever attended) we did shut down the Phoenicians restaurant for this Meetup twice. Both times we were graced by a Belly Dancer (I'll try to get one for this party). Any volunteers??
Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, Fatayre, Kibbe, labne, and so many other Lebanese delights will be served family style. The desserts are equally good. Everyone who attended enjoyed the cuisine and the fun. Middle Eastern music filled the restaurant and, for those of you who did not make either, Robert (our host) is crazy!! You will love him. His wife, Rindalla, is the more stable of the pair. Come meet them and you will probably make this place a stop on your regular dining adventures.
The price is fixed at $30.00 tax and gratuity included. (By the way, the party at Michael's was $70.00, look at this bargain!!) This will include a vast variety of appetizers followed by a dinner of shish kebob, Shawarma, kafta, shish tawouk, more kibbe prepared differently and so much more. So there is definitely one requirement, BRING YOUR APPETITE. Wine and beer are served at the Phoenicians, but this will be at an additional cost. Soda is included in the price.
