Fredericksburg Cemetery and more

UPDATE:

We moved the trip to Wildseeds farm to April 27th since this is how the fields look as of today (March 30,2014) the bluebonnet field is beautiful but the rest of the flowers are not there yet.

we will keep the date for a trip to the Cemetery that will look beautiful with all the bluebonnets, and we can also go to Enchanted Rock, if the weather is nice that day.

The point of reunion will be 281 and Evans Rd,  behind McDonalds, there is a big parking lot there, right besides Home depot, we will meet there at 8am if somebody wants to carpool we can do so as well.

We are planning to be at the

Cemetery around 9:30am- 10.00am if somebody wants to meet us there.

I had a lot of fun yesterday. I couldn't find a parking space at the restaurant so I came on home.

    Chuck, and all,
I was in the LaGrange-Fayetteville area today. Bluebonnets and other wildflowers everywhere. Great flower adorned cemetery at the north side of LaGrange, also the intersection of IH10 and hwy 95 in Flatonia,. The historic -but run down- St Joun Evangelical Lutheran Church cemetery in Ross Prairie was interesting because of its age. But there were flowers in the surrounding fields as a backdrop(Kasmersky Rd, Fayette county).
Anybody with a fuel efficient vehicle can spend Saturday west of town and Sunday east, enjoying the bluebonnet triangle.

I drive all the way up to Brenham and found several places with good shots. I've heard that west of IH35 things are sparse.

  • Chuck B.

I'm going to head up alone around 6 and go straight to the cemetery I know. As soon as I see what's up I'll let y'all know by text. I've been reading that the bluebonnets are best, east of IH35 so we might have to drive around looking at cemeteries and such heading up towards Llano.

Hi Barbara and all Originally this day was reserved to shoot wildflowers but the wild seeds farm was not in full bloom a couple of weeks ago, so we kept the date and scheduled the cemetery trip etc There are some picture updates that the Puppy field is now blooming so if everybody is ok we can stop by for 1/2 hour there and take some shots of whatever has bloomed, then we can go to the St Mary Cemetery and we can also go to the other one that Glenda commented, it will be close to noon by then so we can find a place to have a lunch and continue towards the Enchanted rock or take some side roads and look for nice wildflower fields, There are reports of nice ones in that area, I think the famous city look is close by, I don't know where exactly they are but we can drive around the area and look for the nice field

any comments or suggestions are welcome

LOL,, my pleasure, this is the idea but we never know. For sure the cemetery is in the list :) and the wild seeds farm as an stop on the way to the cemetery. The rest depends on the weather, and what we can find, and the energy of the group :) The cemetery should look gorgeous with all the wildflowers .

Alicia - Is it possible to get just a rough idea of the route we're likely to take from 281 & Evans. I remember Enchanted Rock being mentioned. Is this on?

Der Stadt Friedhof is the name of the cemetery in Fredericksburg. It is kind of back behind the Nimitz museum

Actually the one I know of (with bluebonnets in the past) is the catholic cemetery on the northwestern edge of town. But we can check out any/all. ;)

There is a magnificent cemetery in Fredericksburg that we call the "old Confederate cemetery". It actually has a German name. Both of my grandparents are buried there. It is huge and has an angel imported in the late 1800's from Germany. Lots of really old headstones as well as old and new statuary. I try to photograph it at least four times a year.

    2 · March 31, 2014

  • Mary P.

Hey, I was looking at this cemetery, and found the old city cemetery as well, which is huge and looks like it has some really interesting monuments. Maybe we could hit both cemeteries?? :-)

Is that in Fredericksburg as well ??

Hello everybody. I am at the wildseeds farm. Came to check the fields and they are not blooming yet. They told me that they will bloom by the end of April so I think we should move this Meetup. The only field that us really worth it is the bloobonet one if you want to take pics with your family Let me know what you think. I will try to post some pics here or send them by email

I like the idea of still going for the cemetery!

      1 · March 30, 2014

    • Alicia

That is a great idea and since we had some votes to the cemetery, we can keep this day, go directly there and we can also go to enchanted Rock as you suggested since the weather is still manageable :)

  • Mary P.

    Cemetery gets my vote!

I'd almost rather just do the cemetery trip... maybe sometime we could do historic cemeteries or the big one(s) on the east side...

I love to shoot cemeteries and have never seen the one in Fredericksburg. Looking forward to this.
