Earth Ball 2009 is an Earth Awareness Soiree on June 19, 2009 (6pm to midnight) to highlight major national and local environment issues in honor of Earth Day. The event is from 6pm to midnight at the Mott House, 122 Maryland Ave NE (just next to the Capitol building).

There'll be plenty of food and drinks (complimentary beer!), a DJ spinning, a Green Exhibit Gallery, and various leaders and activists in the green/environmental movement.
Tickets are $25, and in keeping with the Think Global, Act Local theme, ALL proceeds will be donated to urban vegetable garden programs benefiting moderate and low-income residents of the District to develop an urban garden in Anacostia/Ward 8.

I had a fun time, and I think this was a great effort for the first annual Earth Ball. The 'Climate Change Prophet' was great! I look forward to the event being bigger and better next year.

Maybe I had the wrong impression on the mission of Carbon Free DC and the other organizations that hosted this event. I was quite disappointed with the impact we had on the environment for an event called "Earth Ball". The food left a lot to be desired and lacked vegetarian/vegan food options. Meat production/factory farming is more of a contributor of CO2 emissions than vehicles. And the shrimp that was offered is hardly sustainable and I'm sure raised in practices that are highly destructive to the environment. If an event is scheduled for 6pm and to go all night, you need more substantial food. I really didn't like the use of styrofoam and plastic disposable plates, cups, utensils etc. Perhaps next time you could ask people to bring their own utensils or you could have reusables donated. And how is it that Honestea is always at "green" events? Bottled tea is almost as bad as bottled water.

It maybe should have been over a shorter time period for the number of people. Having the beer, liquor, food was a good idea. Name tags with organization would have been helpful as introduction helpers, etc., needed to have someone who knows how to tap a keg.

Pretty low-budget...not what anyone was expecting.
