TEXT: The Religious Function of the Psyche
NOTE: We will conclude our readings & discussion from our january 16, 2012 meetup.
Author: Lionel Corbett, professor of Depth psychology @ Pacifica Graduate Institute, California.
Traditional concepts of God are no longer tenable for many people who nevertheless experience a strong sense of the sacred in their lives. The Religious Function of the Psyche offers a psychological model for the understanding of such experience(s), using the language and interpretive methods of depth psychology, particularly those of C.G. Jung. The problems of evil and suffering, and the notion of human development as an incarnation of spirit are dealt with by means of a religious approach to the psyche that can be brought easily into psychotherapeutic practice and, more importantly, applied by the individual in everyday life.
The book offers an alternative approach to spirituality as well as providing an introduction to Jung and religion.

REMINDER: This event is a free-form, roundtable discussion of readings from a book about or inspired by the ideas of Analytical (Jungian) Psychology and the Transpersonal perspective. We ask that members come prepared with passages or themes from the reading(s) that they wish to discuss with the group so that each discussion will focus on that which grabbed us each with the greatest force.
Please NOTE:
When possible, please donate $1-$3 for semi-annual fees by Meetup.com to maintain our webpage. This is NOT a requirement. Thanks.

I find this collection of words to be cute and metacute: "...when we are born God is old, as we grow old God becomes young, and when we die God experiences rebirth.." (p. 207).
