What: PWYP (Practice What You Preach)

The One, The Only, The Original!
PWYP XiI “Practice What You Preach”

April 4th - 7th, 2012
Chestnut Mountain Proving Ground
McDowell Co., North Carolina

“Practice What You Preach” is an annual camping trip held in the foothills of NC. The purpose is for like minded individuals to meet and share information on outdoor survival.
The location is on private property in McDowell Co. NC. The site is located just off Highway 221 about half way between Rutherfordton and Marion, NC (maps and directions are posted)
There are NO facilities on the property. No electricity, only natural water (streams and small pond), and the only items provided with be porta-johns. Camping will be in whatever fashion you prefer (my way of saying, “Every man or woman for themselves.” In the past, most have used tarps or tents. Meals are totally up to the individuals. We will provide the location, a few educational programs, and a few fun contest. All else is up to the individuals attending.
There will be two events taking place prior to PWYP so the gate will not be opened until 12:00 noon on Wed. the 6th.
This is an open invitation. Men, Women, and Children (and dogs) are all welcome. If you bring children or dogs, they are your responsibility and should not be left unattended at any time.
As in the past, we will share the expense of the porta-johns and liability insurance. The cost should be $25.00 per adult. To sign up for the gathering you must download the liability release (cut and paste) and mail it to me along with your portion of the cost. The release will give me all of your contact information, medical conditions, etc. Print it off on an 81/2 x 11 sheet and please print to where I can read the information. Please sign up early so I can judge when to cut off the sign-up. Each year we have had to turn away people trying to sign up at the last moment.
As in years past, we plan to draw on the skills of those attending to help put together classes for everyone’s benefit.
The release form is attached to this thread. Additional information will be posted in the next few days.
As from the beginning, all are welcome! Outdoor expert or the newest beginner, you’ll learn something. Most of all, you’ll see old friends and meet new ones. There are no strangers on Chestnut Mountain!
The Wilderness Learning Center will be holding it’s Southern class prior to PWYP. This is a separate function and you should contact Marty Simon for further information.

This is a meetup of people off of knife forums, and usually numbers between 75 and 80 people, with Wilderness Skills instructors such as Myself, Marty Simon, and others showing up. Notable knife people showing up include Ethan Becker of Becker / Ka-Bar knives, Charles May knives, Doug Ritter of Equip 2 Survive, BLIND HORSE KNIVES, and Possibly Jeff Randall of Esee knives if I harass him enough.

The exact location is the same as last year. The entrance to the property is off of highway NC 221.
It is half way between Marion and Rutherfordton, NC.
N 35 degrees 33.3 min.
W 81 degrees 58.2 min.
At that point you will see signs.

10 miles South of Marion, NC and 10 miles North of Rutherfordton, NC on Hwy. 221.
Coming from the South you will cross the McDowell Co. line and go about 2.8 miles and turn left onto a dirt road (Look for PWYP sign). After .3 miles turn left and cross the creek. Follow signs.
Coming from the North you will drive South on Hwy.221. After you cross I-40, you will drive 6.1 miles and turn right onto a dirt road (Look for sign), go .3 miles and turn left and follow the signs.
Coming in on I-40 you will exit at Hwy. 221 (NOT 226) and turn South and follow directions above."

The organizer said we can bring the release form and the $25 with us instead of mailing it, if we haven't already. But if so, come early because there is a cut-off when capacity is reached. Yesterday my daughters decided to come.
