The Easter Island Ride (ALERT - Notice change in Starting Location!)

UPDATED: NOTE CHANGE IN STARTING LOCATION  - As a "bonus" ride from our Getting Ready to Ride (GR2R) Series, we are having an additional ride on Easter Sunday. Leaving from South Bellevue Park-n-Ride (http://goo.gl/maps/yarVe ) at noon, we will head out on a loop going through Beaux Arts and around Mercer Island. So in the spirit of "truth in labeling", we are calling it The Easter Island Ride because a) it's Easter b) our route is around Mercer Island, and c) we are going to be riding it!! This is truly a fun route with views of Lake Washington, interesting homes, and a very popular riding route around the Island.   Rides will be conducted at three paces and you can select the pace that best fits for you - we will lead groups with paces for Leisurely (10-12 mph); Steady (12-14 mph); and Moderate (14-16 mph). The route map is at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2234205 . Printed cue sheets will be available at the start (although we will send out info on the cue sheets earlier so you can print them yourself) and can be obtained electronically by Friday noon prior to the ride from the Ride Leader ( cue sheets uploaded at http://files.meetup.com/3386582/Easter_Island_Ride_31_Mar_2013.pdf ). Please plan to be ready to ride by 11:45 so we can process the ride waivers, do equipment checks, provide the safety briefing, and discuss the route. This bonus ride should provide a great launching point for other training and daily rides for the paces offered. Please consult the Cascade Bicycle Club Daily Rides web page for information for riders (http://www.cascade.org/EandR/rides_newcomer_instruction.cfm) as helmets and so forth are required for the ride.

If you enjoyed our GR2R events or want to just join in, this is a great "last" ride of this series for you.

Please have appropriate equipment and gear to support yourself in the event of a flat tire.

Ride Leaders:
Leisurely 10-12 mph on the flat (aka Red) - Allyson Welsh/Ann Silvernale
Steady 12-14 mph on the flats (aka Yellow) - Heidi Schillinger/Al Miller
Moderate 14-16 mph on the flats (aka Green) - Alexa Volwiler/Frieder Mack

Distance 21+ miles
Terrain – some hills
Pace – Leisurely & Steady & Moderate
Regroup - frequent
Weather Cancellation – steady rain cancels (also ice/snow)
Map and Cue Sheet available – Yes

I will have about 30+ sets of printed cue sheets are the start - you can also print one from this link - http://files.meetup.com/3386582/Easter_Island_Ride_31_Mar_2013.pdf or just look under "More" above and then "Files" where the cue sheet is loaded.

I will be ending the ride near mile 16 on Mercer Island rather than biking back to Bellevue.

    March 29, 2013

    • Al M.

Not a problem, just let the RL's know so we don't think someone is stranded on the route!

  • Christie W.

I can't wait! I've missed riding with everyone. See you all Sunday!

Looking forward to the ride. Thanks for setting this up

    • Susan K.

Pam you'll have to tell me all about the ride at work on Monday! You'll love riding around MI. It's one of my favorite routes on a beautiful sunny day! :)

      March 28, 2013

  • Al M.

Please note change in starting location for Sunday! We will be at South Bellevue Park-n-Ride location as indicated above - the good side - there is lots of parking and set up areas for you. The not-so-good-side - there are no open rest room facilities at that standard location. We tried to move the start for the rest room access but could not finally resolve the parking issues for a group our size. So we have done the re-routing (url is unchanged) and we will get to an early rest stop at mile 3.5. Please take this into account and arrive accordingly personally prepared! In the words of Forrest Gump, "My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Aw, Al... Now you'll have to ride to Downtown Park to pick up your Courier stragglers ;)

      March 27, 2013

    • Al M.

James - nope - I figured out how to "share" that responsibility! Also our route goes there in 3.5 miles so we'll be joined up pretty quickly! Thanks to Jack Nolan for helping us out here!!

      March 27, 2013

  • Phil H.

Al: I peddled 23.5 miles in each direction today to the downtown Bellevue Park to time my departure and arrival for Sunday. You are evil.

    March 27, 2013

    • Al M.

Phil: Why thank you! :>) (it is only a little extra distance - let me know if you want me to provide directions from Bellevue Park to the Park-n-Ride)

      March 27, 2013

    • Phil H.

Well the MIL is now summoning me to Sunday supper. I have to make a decision to drive or ride to West Seattle for Sunday supper. It looks as if the extended Sunday bike ride is fading fast. There is never enough time for the joys of life.

  • Susan K.

I would love to attend but I will be busy getting ready for family and Easter dinner.

    March 27, 2013

  • James K.

    I'm in.

    March 26, 2013

  • Bunny S

An early Easter dinner precludes the ride.

    March 25, 2013

    • Al M.

Well, we know you will be with us in spirit at least! And, if plans change, here's a great ride to join! (It's actually a pretty good route to do some other time on your own as well!)

      March 26, 2013

  • Judy A.

Thank you for the bonus ride!

    March 25, 2013

  • Majid H.

Hello road , It's me again...

    March 25, 2013

    • Al M.

Majid - great to hear you can join us this weekend! Looking forward to catching up with you on the aftermath! This should be a fun ride also!

      March 25, 2013

    • Majid H.

Hi Al , I cannot wait to see you guys.

      March 25, 2013

  • Machiko T.

    I will be there!

    March 25, 2013

    • Al M.

Machiko - you'll be doing your mentoring ride with me (and Heidi of course)! Woot!! I hope this is the second (and final) one?

      1 · March 25, 2013

    • Machiko T.

Yup! I will be ready. Bright and early to pre-ride (at least from starting point to Mercer is), so I won't get the whole group lost :-).

      March 25, 2013

  • Marki S.

Sounds like a great way to celebrate Easter ;).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
