CHEW Series 3.10.13 Ride - Steady/Moderate/Brisk - 41 miles (3407')

The eighth ride of the CHEW Series (see below) will be held on March 10, 2013, start location and time noted above. We will leave Marymoor Park East and head to climb Sahalee on the Plateau followed by a loop back to climb up Inglewood Road – after crossing the plateau, we will climb up Ames Lk Road, Union Hill Road, Old Redmond Road, followed by two (2!) different approaches up Education Hill.

Ride leaders for this week are:

Brisk Plus – Bob Dennis and James Coliz

Brisk Minus -- Frieder Mack and Tim Thomas
Moderate – Kimberly Smith
Steady – Sandi Navarro

Draft route for this week is: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1872498

Climbing Hills – Eastside Wintertime – The CHEW Series will be held Sundays at 0930 on Jan 13, 20, 27, Feb 3, 10, 17, March 3, March 10, March 17, and March 24 at various starting points on the East Side. These will be climbing routes on local hills which will progress from circa 30 miles and 2500 feet of elevation to 50+ miles and 4500 feet of elevation. There will be three paces offered for riders – Brisk (16-18 mph on flats); Moderate (14-16 mph on flats); and Steady (12-14 mph on flats) which will all use a common course for that week. Each ride pace for the week will also be posted at Cascade Bicycle Club Daily Rides Calendar (http://www.cascade.org/EandR/Activities_Calendar.cfm?query=cascadefreedailyride)

Riders should be able to sustain the appropriate pace for their selected group, read a cue sheet, change a flat (and have the requisite equipment), and have a positive attitude! Faster riders and better climbers are welcome to join but for them the ride becomes self-paced and self-guided. Riders can ride on their own, in small groups, or with the appropriate pace ride leader. Cue sheets will be available at the start and riders can email the Ride Leader by the preceding Friday noon for the final route cue sheet pdf and map url. Rest Stops will be planned as noted on the Route Cue Sheet

Great riding today - enjoyed the course and we did get 3 more riders to the ride from the "alternate" starting point!

Thanks Tim and Paula for helping me fix my flat at the starting line today and riding with me for most of the day with your GPS map. You guys are great! Although we got left behind, we caught up to both brisk groups.

Thanks Frieder and Tim for the great ride today, and a huge thanks to the route planners and ride organizers. What a great series ... wish I didn't have to miss out on so many in February.

Great ride with Brisk minus today. You were a fantastic group. All strong riders with never more than a minute of separation between the first and the last up the hills. Makes for a great ride when the first riders don't get cold waiting for the last, and the last never getting a break. Hope to see you all again next week!

We had a fantastic ride today indeed. The pace, the rhythm, the atmosphere and the hills are all good. Thanks Tim and Frieder. You're great leaders.

Just have to say that my steady group was awesome today! Strong riders, everyone was fairly evenly matched - and all around a fun group which made for an enjoyable ride! Hope the new riders will join us again next week. Special thanks to Rick for sweeping and Joni for floating and giving directions when needed!

Joni will be bringing the cue sheets to the start tomorrow - I printed about 20+ copies.

I think I'll probably be there, too...especially if the weather looks anything like it did today :)

Pre drove the route today. Not too sure that speed on the flats will matter on this ride, as there are no flats on this course. Should be a fun route!

I will have to sit this one out. I have a bad gash in my leg that just hasn't healed up enough for the ride. Have a great ride everyone.

Wishing I could join you, but Lee will be representing both of us again this week. Doc says another 4-6 weeks before I can be back on the road. See you all then!

We'll have to be sure Lee does all the hills twice then as he has to ride for two!!
