This trail has beautiful wildflowers, an elevation gain of 1,300 feet, and it is roller-coaster-like (up and down and up and down). During the hike we'll pass an abandoned dolomite mine:
And we'll pass an old corral where (according to legend) horsethieves hid their stolen horses:
After 2.5 miles we'll arrive at beautiful Horsethief Creek, a perfect shady picnic spot where we'll enjoy our "bag lunch"
HOW TO GET TO THE TRAILHEAD

From Hwy. 111 in Palm Desert, turn south on Hwy. 74. Proceed on Hwy. 74 up the mountain until you PASS the Sugarloaf Cafe, where you will take the first paved road to the LEFT (it is exactly 15.2 miles from Hwy. 111). Look for these signs - this is where you turn:
After turning onto Pinyon Flats Transfer Station Road, then turn LEFT at this sign and we'll meet in the parking lot (note - there are no restrooms here)
Even though the elevation is around 4,000 feet, expect it to be HOT - please bring extra water, and don't forget to pack your bag lunch into your backpack!
