Advocating For Human Rights

As our first official event for this year, we are excited to announce Advocating For Human Rights with Serina McDuff and Ben Lewis.

Our first speaker, Serina McDuff, is Community Pillar Director at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. Serina has been the Executive Director of two different organisations in her career, along with spending time as a Senior Human Rights Lawyer for DHS. In her current role as Director of Community Pillar for ASRC, she's responsible for working towards financial sustainability of the ASRC and changing community attitudes towards asylum seekers. She also plays a lead role in the development and coordination of the ASRC's policy and campaigns work and provides advocacy advice across the various ASRC pillars.

Our second speaker, Ben Lewis, is the Advocacy Coordinator for the International Detention Coalition. Ben coordinates the IDC's UN advocacy and state engagement on Alternatives to Detention (ATD); provides technical assistance and transnational advocacy to over 250 non-governmental organization members, faith-based groups, academics, practitioners and individuals working in 67 countries; undertakes strategic research to bolster knowledge of community-based ATD; and assists in the implementation of pilot projects on ATD in collaboration with state parties, UN bodies, and IDC member organisations around the world.

Join us for a casual evening with these two awesome individuals to relax, drink, chat and hear their stories. Hope to see you there.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make this talk anymore. I'm submitting my thesis in a fortnight and thought I'd be further along than I am, so I can't really afford the time off. I won't miss the next one, though!
