Cleveland Premiere of "Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home"

Join Tribe of Heart for the Cleveland premiere of their new film, PEACEABLE KINGDOM: THE JOURNEY HOME. The documentary is a riveting story of transformation and healing portraying the experience of five farmers, each engaged in a courageous struggle of conscience which leads them to reconsider their relationship to the animals in their care. Also portrayed in the film is the remarkable story of a humane police officer who struggles against overwhelming odds to help farm animals in need. Their powerful testimony, combined with rare footage from dramatic animal rescues vividly depicts the individuality and familial bonds of farm animals. The film creates an unforgettable portrait of farm life that many viewers have called "a life-changing experience."

The 78-minute documentary will screen at the Cleveland Institute of Art followed by a Q&A with filmmakers Jenny Stein and James LaVeck, as well as film subject and former farmer Harold Brown who was a long-time Cleveland resident. Immediately following the presentation there will be a reception featuring delicious vegan appetizers, desserts and beverages.

"Our goal was to combine an intimate portrait of animal lives with an equally sensitive exploration of a seldom-discussed moral struggle experienced by many people growing up in farm culture," said LaVeck. “I believe the film is touching a nerve because it explores a struggle we all feel, as we strive to live in a just and sustainable way on an increasingly beleaguered planet. Can we be better than we are, yet still hold on to the best of our roots?”

Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home is currently enjoying a winning streak on the North American film festival circuit, taking home the Audience Award at the Environmental Film Festival at Yale, the Grand Jury Prize at the Canada International Film Festival, and the Best Documentary Award at Chicago’s Peace on Earth Film Festival within the last few months. “It’s been heartening,” says Jenny Stein, the film’s director, “to see the peace and environmental communities so enthusiastically embrace this film, extending their ethic of non-violence and compassion to the other beings who share the planet with us.” The film’s production company, Tribe of Heart, is a charitable organization that has spent the last decade making life-changing, award-winning films on the journey of awakening conscience and works to empower caring people everywhere to become agents of peaceful social change. Their first film, The Witness, was described in The Los Angeles Times as "the most important and persuasive film about animals ever made." It screened at 32 festivals around the world, receiving eight Best Documentary awards and two Best of Festival awards. Dr. Jane Goodall, U.N. Messenger of Peace, has endorsed their work, calling one their films “a masterpiece.” And Plain Dealer reporter Michael Heaton, in a review of one of their films which was an official selection at the 2005 Cleveland International Film Festival, called it “intelligent, persuasive and powerful without ever getting in your face… you come out feeling empowered by the film’s knowledge and uplifted by its heart.”

The premiere will take place on Sunday, June 27th at 4 PM. Screening and post-film reception are FREE and open to the public. Free parking is available in the adjacent CIA lot, located on the north and east sides of the building off of East Blvd. Entrance to the building is through the rear door, just off the parking lot.
