Re: [cavalierspaniel-48] Night Barking - Help!!!

I, too, agree that Cavaliers usually like to share your bed, and my two sleep with us (as do my friend's two who are staying with us for a few days.)  That being said, I do know people who crate their Cavaliers at night, including one who has three sleeping with her and her husband and one in a crate in the bedroom.  Another friend has a dog bed on her bed and her Cavalier happily stays in it.  They do need to know you're there at the very least.  The crate should never be a place they're unhappy in, and if your dog is barking in the crate he/she is trying to tell you something.  Does he normally like to be warm or cool?  Some dogs are naturally warmer and seek a cool surface, so that could also be his problem.  It really is a matter of trial and error.  Good luck!

Hello Group -

My 6 month old cavalier, Ryker, has hit some new phase and to be frank, it's driving me nuts. Since his very first day at home at 9 weeks old, he's always been so docile and happy to be in his crate at night. Never had any problems before. About 2 weeks ago he woke me up with barking at about 12:30pm and then again at 4pm. Each time I took him outside to pee but he barely even needed to go. Now it's become a regular thing for him to start barking 30 mins after he goes into the crate and he pretty much doesn't stop until the next morning. I'm actually afraid of getting kicked out of my apt because others must be hearing it. Not sure what to do here but I'd love some advice as I need my sleep and not sure how much longer I can handle this. Sleeping with me on the bed is not an option. I'd rather not get into the habit.
