I crated Molly for the first month or so. She probably would have continued to sleep in her crate if it weren't for her needy mama! lol

I do need to say though that I never crate trained my 2 cavs they have slept with me from day two. I used the techniques below for my cattle dog and they worked well which may say something about the difference in breeds.

Ali is right:-) and you should put an article of our clothing like PJS or something soft like a sweatshirt so he can snuggle and know you are near and make sure it's really comfortable and cozy in the crate.   Additionally , covering the crate with a sheet, towel means it's bedtime. Hope this helps!  Monika

I snuggle with Digby every night... Put the crate next to your bed and make sure it's cozy for him?

Hello Group -

My 6 month old cavalier, Ryker, has hit some new phase and to be frank, it's driving me nuts. Since his very first day at home at 9 weeks old, he's always been so docile and happy to be in his crate at night. Never had any problems before. About 2 weeks ago he woke me up with barking at about 12:30pm and then again at 4pm. Each time I took him outside to pee but he barely even needed to go. Now it's become a regular thing for him to start barking 30 mins after he goes into the crate and he pretty much doesn't stop until the next morning. I'm actually afraid of getting kicked out of my apt because others must be hearing it. Not sure what to do here but I'd love some advice as I need my sleep and not sure how much longer I can handle this. Sleeping with me on the bed is not an option. I'd rather not get into the habit.

Thanks
Dan
