2010 Policies & Guidelines for the ATL Cavalier Meetup Group

 

Hello, Pet Parents and Cavalier Dog Lovers!

First of all, we'd like to thank you for making 2009 another year of doggie fun and pet parent camaraderie!  Since we began this group back in 2006 and now it's a New Year, so we thought a few "housekeeping" matters should be attended to, so we can get off to a nice, fresh start for 2010.

This is, admittedly, a bit lengthy ... so please read at your convenience.  Thanks for your time.

While we still want to keep our meetups mostly light and fun (while also including education and awareness of animal welfare), we feel some policies and guidelines are needed. FYI, the following new policies for the Atlanta Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Meetup Group are effective immediately. Whether you're a "seasoned" member or a brand new one, we ask that you please take a few minutes to read the new policies, below.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES: $10 per single pet and $15.00 for two or more

The Meetup Organizer pays to maintain the club website on a monthly basis, so member dues would help to offset that expense

Please note that on occasion, we may have added elements or expenses at Meetup events.  In these instances, the cost per family may be just a couple of dollars more. We strive to keep fees low; we don't want our events to be cost-prohibitive, but instead a fun and inexpensive way to enjoy time with our dogs.

Examples of events with an additional cost listed below: 

~ Halloween Meetup ��� prizes and certificates made for each dog.

~ Ice Cream Social Meetup ��� individual doggie ice cream purchased by the organizer for each pup.

PHOTOGRAPHS: When joining our Meetup group, you acknowledge that you may appear in members' digital photographs (and consequently on the internet) and are OK with this. If not, please let us know when someone attempts to take your picture.

DISCLAIMER: We are a group of pet parents who come together to socialize our dogs and ourselves. We are not trained pet experts or handlers. When you participate in a Meetup, you are doing so voluntarily. Each individual is responsible for his or her pet's safety as well as the safety of others' pets.

SUGGESTIONS/IDEAS FOR MEETUPS: We're always looking for fun activities to do with our pups. If you know of something going on and/or have an idea, suggestion or pet-friendly venue for a Meetup, please send me (Rachel) an e-mail to let me know so that we can post it or look into it.

 

GENERAL:  SPAM is NOT allowed in any format within the group. This includes promotions for products or services, advertisements for non-Meetup events that haven���t been cleared with the group���s Organizer, etc.  If you do this you will be removed.   Members posting SPAM to the Message Board will have those messages deleted and be immediately removed from the group.  Promoting other local forums or groups via our forum or private messaging system is not permitted.  Any member who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact an Organizer immediately.


OTHER TIPS/SUGGESTIONS:

"Potty Break" -- If at all possible, please allow your dog(s) an opportunity to go potty before entering a Meetup. We read this online and it seems useful:

If you have any doubts about how your dog will behave when planning to meet other dogs, give him or her a chance to run around a little and lift his leg / relieve herself.  Burning off some steam and emptying his/her bladder beforehand can lower the intensity of the reaction when the dogs actually meet.

Having said that, we provide clean-up supplies because accidents will inevitably happen.

Which lead us to ...

- Please help out with doggie pick-ups during Meetups. You may or may not actually see you pet "going", but we should all do our part to help clean up so that not just one or two people are on "duty"(!) for the entire Meetup.

- Please do your best NOT to feed treats or cake to others' pets without asking permission. We know how unbearably cute all the doggies are, but on a serious note, sometimes a pet has special health conditions or considerations, etc.  Please do not place treats on the floor or distribute without permission granted by the pet owner. .

WEBSITE ACCESS / PROFILE UPDATES

As always, our goal is not to have the largest Meetup group in the history of Meetups.  We prefer and enjoy it when there are curious and/or enthusiastic pet parents who want to come out and join us, bringing their doggies to meet new friends, and to share experiences, knowledge and tips with other pet parents.  

Please EDIT/UPDATE your member profile if you haven't updated your information since you joined or in a long time. For example, maybe your profile reads, "I'm moving to Atlanta in July [past]" or "I have a 6-month-old puppy named Felix [who's now 3 years old]", etc., etc. You can do this by going to the Members page and at the top left, it'll give you an option to edit your profile.
