RE: [cavalierspaniel-54] hip dysplasia

I adopted a Cavalier rescue that has hip displasia.  She's not yet 3 years old and has also had both patellas fixed and has a minor spine problem.
As a rescue, I don't know her history, but I wouldn't doubt she came out of a puppy mill with all her skeletal problems.
So far the hip hasn't slowed her down or presented any problem but it's something to watch.  She needs to keep her weight at 17-18 pounds and keep fit to help the knees, spine and hips.  Personally, I think having a great vet with lots of knowledge of Cavaliers is almost as important as a reputable breeder.
Someone recommended checking the AKC site for breeders.  The lady in Georgetown/Round Rock has already given her name and contact info.  There are at least two breeder-handler-showers in San Antonio that are also good.  Ginger Harrison of Bentwood Kennels is one.  I had a show champion from her with no problems except the MVD which is genetic and eventually killed her--but she was almost 13 which is really old for a Cavalier.
Hope your puppy's displasia isn't severe.

We just found out that Sir Harry has hip dysplasia.  I was sad and shocked since I thought that was more of a big dog issue.  Has anyone else had problems with this in your Cavaliers?
