Hump Day Yappy Hour @ Second Chance Saloon

Let's welcome summer with a CDOG Yappy Hour at the Second Chance Saloon! We did these last summer and they were great! Second Chance is a great host!

Their enclosed patio has tables and chairs and plenty of room for our pooches. Plus, a stretch of the Columbia pathways runs right behind the patio, so you can take your dog for a walk beforehand.

We trust you to assure us that your dog is friendly with other dogs and that you will maintain control at all times. We will be in fairly close quarters and there will be food--so we want to be sure to keep a watchful eye. If you think your dog will not be comfortable in this type of setting, you may want to try one of our group walks first.

NOTE: The patio can accommodate up to 25 of us with pooches in tow. We ask that you please do not plan to show up if you have not RSVP'd on this site. And if you do RSVP and later change your mind, please be sure to update your RSVP (or send an email) so others can attend. (Everyone was great about this last year! Thank you!) I will try to make name tags.

The Second Chance is a great neighborhood meeting place in Columbia and offers homemade bar food such as wings, fried pickles, and barbecue, as well as salads, burgers, sandwiches and more (see the online menu) and great happy hour prices. The Second Chance has 12-ever changing beers on tap, 88 bottled beers, wine, and other refreshments.

WHERE TO MEET

Use the Google map above for directions to the Second Chance.

The Second Chance is in the Oakland Mills Village Center, right next to the "Other Barn."

Park in the parking lot in front. However, we obviously won't enter through the front door with our pooches! So, go all the way around to the back to enter. There you'll find a large patio surrounded by a high wooden fence. Go around to the door on the side and we'll let you in.

No need to rush to arrive right at 5 pm. We'll be there til 7 pm. You are also welcome to come a little earlier to walk your dog along the pathway in the back.

That's the way it goes. Some folks proceed anyway and others turn back. Either way, it was the right decision for each of you. At least it wasn't broiling hot out there.

Had a great, albeit slightly wet time! Sorry for any confusion about canceling or not--it can be so hard to call these. But we had 7 hardy happy-hour-ers and 9 water-loving pooches who took a chance at the Second Chance. We had enough time between downpours to enjoy our drinks and food, and were rewarded afterwards with a beautiful full double rainbow! Wow! Thanks to the staff for their excellent wait service out there. We'll aim for more of these, but hopefully in drier weather!

Really fun, meeting new people and dogs and spending time with old friends while dodging cloudbursts.

We're here and unfortunately the storm is here too. We'll have to cancel. Tables will be too wet.

Its getting dark and very windy here, storms moving in, I'm 2 blocks away from the 2nd Chance. I won't be going.

At 4 pm, I see that there's a "t-storm watch" until 10. Right now, most of it seems to be headed south--to Virginia. I most likely will not cancel for tonight, but want to let everyone know that we'll be keeping a close eye on the weather--for everyone's safety. Please be prepared to up and leave if a storm seems imminent. And please use your best judgment about attending--we'll understand if you have any concerns about the weather.

Let's hope that it passes us by!

I hope to attend. I have a surgical procedure the day before. So, if I don't make it, that means I my sedation was too sedating and i am still asleep :) Really hope to be there with one of my Labs ...

Hey MARY, How are you and 'the kids'? I've already committed to volunteer for that evening's Columbia Festival of the Arts performance or you'd see me. Enjoy and maybe I'll be free next time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
