Let's do the Green Trail in Wincopin Trail - Savage Park!

Time for a little walk in the woods, let's do the Wincopin Trail in Savage Park. It's really beautiful and feels far removed from civilization even though it's so close to Columbia. The trails are wide and well-marked, and consist of several loops throughout the park.

The trail we will be walking is about 2.2 miles through a wood-chip covered path (green trail), here is a map of the trail for those that are unfamiliar or would like to check out the area. We will plan to make a stop so the dogs can take a break and have a lil water fun in the river.

There are some elevation changes, but nothing too challenging. One fairly steep hill toward the end of the walk that has wooded steps. Wear sneakers or hiking shoes as it can get muddy in some areas. Please be advised this is not a stroller friendly walk if considering to come with small children. Please bring water for yourself and your dog.

There are some interesting old ruins of bridges and dams that you'll see along the trail, and they are good vantage points for beautiful views of the river.

The parking lot for the Wincopin trails of Savage Park is located on Vollmerhausen Road, a short distance downhill from the Patuxent Valley Middle School. If you're using a GPS, you can get there by entering: 9271 Vollmerhausen Road, Jessup MD.

From the Columbia area: Take 29S to 32E, then exit off onto Broken land Parkway. Take a left onto Guilford Rd, a right onto Murrary Hill Rd and left onto Vollmerhasuen Rd. A nice scenic backroad trip, just gorgeous on these nice days.

Just a reminder that we ask those joining us to use REGULAR 6-FOOT LEASHES. Also, going at a good speed this walk takes over an hour.

Hey Folks. I'm back in town because my beloved Robin died. I will be coming with little Kip, and a new addition to the family, Rhoda, a 30 pound hound dog we just rescued from North Carolina. Rhoda is 100% sweet and 0% trained, so bear with us...
