Pooches Pool Party (public event)

Howard County is once again sponsoring its end-of-season Pooches Pool Party! Always a lot of fun!

To attend, you must first register with Howard County Parks & Recreation. For details, go to Pooches Pool Party. Online registration begins August 8 at 6 pm for HoCo residents, and on August 15 at 6 pm for non residents.

Please note that this is a public event sponsored by Howard County Parks & Recreation and is open to the general public. It is not sponsored by Columbia Dogs on the Go, so we are not setting it up as one of our "Meetups" with RSVPs, but announcing it as a courtesy to our members. To let other members know you're coming or to start a discussion, use the "Join the conversation" section below.

There are 2 separate sessions: Morning (10-11:30 am) and Afternoon (1-2:30 pm). Each session accepts 75 attendees.

Here is the official description:

This unique canine-only swim will wrap up the "Dog Daze" of summer. Pooches and their pals (the human kind) are invited to paddle and play before the pool is closed for the season.

Please be aware that all dog park/off-leash area rules apply to this event and must be followed. All dog handlers must be at least 18 years old. Children under the age of 12 are NOT permitted. Youth 12-17 years old must be accompanied by a registered adult. Please curb your canine before entering the pool; "accidents" can result in pool closure and an early end to the fun!

Space is limited and advanced registration is required for this popular event.

The $10 Fee includes admission of one dog accompanied by a maximum of two handlers and a doggie gift bag for each pooch swimmer. No more than one dog per human. Fee is per dog. Events cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met.

Rain date:  September 9.

Registration: [masked] or online.

Information: Karen Bradley Ehler, [masked] or Julija Sajauskas, [masked]. (Please direct any questions to these individuals, and not Columbia Dogs on the Go.)

It looks like the morning session is full as of today (Aug 21), but 52 openings still in the afternoon session.

Thanks Mary, so it looks like you have to pay for a membership in order to register? : (

I think you can create an account for free. And then pay the fee to register for the event. I won't be able to go so I haven't tried it. But I would suggest calling one of the phone numbers at the end of the description if you have any problems registering.

Sounds neat. Is this pool open for dogs during the summer or a one time event?

A one-time event. They do it each year before the pool closes for the season.
