Post Gluten Free Restuarants

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • I think we should all share our info on places to eat gluten free in the Metro-DC/MD/VA area by posting restuarants that are gluten free friendly. :)
Here is a few from me:

    PF Changs
    Chili's
    Outback Stakehouse
    Legal Seafoods
    Pancake House
    Chipottle

Sweet/Meet 27 in Baltimore is a completely gluten-free bakery and restaurant... the food is amazing, and they have a great selection of gluten-free beer. It is my favorite restaurant, and a true blessing since being diagnosed with Celiac disease 4 years ago!

Soretti's is located in Burtonsville, MD by the way.

TRY Soretti's Ethiopian Cuisine where they serve pure teff injera. They take extra measures to avoid cross contamination by grinding their own teff flour. Make sure you request for it though since it is not served by default.

  • Alison

Zaytinya, Rasika, Dukem (Ethiopian and, for an added price, you can get Injera made of all teff), and Pizzeria Paradiso are all delicious options!

    January 30, 2014

    • Anna L.

A warning about Pizzeria Paradiso - they have NO measures in place to prevent cross contact. They use the same utensils and put the pizza straight in the wood oven that has flour all over the surface. I've seen pictures and it looks delicious, but if you have anything more than a gluten sensitivity I would avoid it.

      January 30, 2014

    • Alison

Thanks for pointing that out! I actually don't have celiac (I have a significant sensitivity but am usually not too affected by cross contamination) so I may be a bit more liberal than others can be so I am sorry about that! Please check on the other places I suggested before going. I do know that Zaytinya is very good about the cross-contamination issue, however. Oh, and I will add Agora to the list of GF-friendly places that I really like.

The Silver Diner in Laurel, MD has a lot of delicious gluten free food on their menu including gluten free pancakes & french toast.

I had a great lunch at Rasika in DC where 90 % of the menu is gluten free. Call ahead and let them know you are gluten free. Our waiter was so informative and helpful and the food was great!

We would love to host a group here at One Dish Cuisine Cafe, Deli and Bakery in Ellicott City, MD. We are completely GF and Certified GF by the CSA and allergen free. We offer pizzas, subs, sandwiches, soups, fresh breads, desserts, spaghetti and meatballs and many other specials. We make it all in house!

I have the perfect spot! Soretti's Ethiopian Cuisine in Burtonsville (just north of Silver Spring) is the only gluten-free Ethiopian Restaurant in the DC metro area. Open everyday, cozy, Vegan dishes, wine & beer. Friendly service. What do you think?

Pei Wei in Columbia (Pei Wei is the Reader's Digest version of PF Chang).

Grace I have great success with their burgers and fries, but there must be cross cont issues with the pizza as I got very sick on it. Just be careful.

Copper Canyon Restaurants: lots of choices; makes me feel normal again.
Ex.: Roteisserie Chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and the sauce for the meatloaf is GF. The food has flavor and spices, sauces. They have the BEST service and the food is excellent!

Mama Lucia's in Reston-gf pizza and pasta
    Don Corleone's in sterling-gf pizza
Travinia in Leesburg-gf menu and pasta

I'm a big fan of Mama Lucia's--glad to hear about the others. As a native NJ girl, I used to love the authentic pizza at Flippers at South Lakes in Reston--they told me that they have a GF crust, but can't guarantee that there will be no cross-contamination because there is so much flour in the air.

Not Your Average Joe's in Lansdowne (Leesburg) VA has a delicious GF menu, and will make you a GF roll, too (as will Legal Seafood in Tysons Corner).

Sorry I haven't been able to attend any dinners in forever. I teach most evenings and haven't been able to get to any.

Planet Pizza And Subs in Rockville, MD has GF Pizza and delivers! It's not amazing (like Lilit's), but it's sure beats trying to throw something together something when you're crazy busy.

I went to Jaleo tonight and they had a designated GF menu and were well-versed in cross-contamination issues!

Also, Macaroni Grill in Silver Spring was great in terms of being GF (not the best food though!)

I am a huge GF foodie so let's schedule some more meetups!

Also, I am working on planning a GF event in Silver Spring to promote www.ccglutenfreed.com

I don`t remember where, but I stopped in a bakery about halfway to the waterfront from the metro on Kingstreet in Old Town. They had the most amazing brownies!!! But I usually get some frozen yogurt or ice cream as there seems to be a lot of shops for that there...

+1 for Lilit Cafe from Sivan. Their Pizza is just as good if not better than any regular gourmet pizza!

Stella's Restaurant in Rockville is very accomodating -- the chef will adapt an entree and works with the wait staff so that the food is gluten-free.

I usually go to the Cheesecake Factory in Fairfax, Tysons or Arlington and never had a problem. My son is gluten free, dairy free, soy free and so on, so his food always has to be cooked separately, and the managers are always accomodating.

    1 · September 11, 2011

  • Kim M.

Mmm... the DC Cheesecake Factory must be better than the one in Towson and NY I have been to, because neither were accommodating at all. The waitress tried very hard, but they wouldn't let me speak to the manager or the chef until everyone was quite frustrated and I was sick to my stomach from one of the dishes they had brought out. It was my friend who is a chef and doesn't eat g/f that told the chef to take my dish away that it didn't even smell good. I will give the one in DC a try, thanks!

Many restaurants in DC accommodate GF: Rosa Mexicano, Zaitinya, Oyamel, Sette Osteria (have gf pasta), Legal Seafood (really good deep fried calamari), and most nice restaurants and big chain restaurants will cook as you like if you talk to the manager (Cheesecake Factory, Sweetwater tavern, etc).

    Best bread is Udi's bread.

Disney parks have gluten free burger buns, if you ever need to go.

A friend of mine bakes for special diets. She typically does gluten free, dairy free, soy free, sugar free (uses honey, agave, or xylitol), and organic ingredients whenever possible. She lives in Centreville. I've had cupcakes and cookies from her, all so delicious.
    Her website is www.gfcf-pastry.com.

For pizza, I love Fireworks in Court House, Arlington. They have all kinds of gourmet pizza. For NY style pizza, Tony's in Fair Lakes.

If you go to NYC, LA or Orlando, Babycakes is a must!

I think that is true of most gluten free pizza. Will give it a try next time I get down that way : ) The other items sound good too!

Sivan - totally agree on Open City the next morning. It was the best hangover cure for me last weekend: http://glutenfreegimmethree.com/2011/08/14/gluten-free-hangover-cure/ Also you have to ask or it extra crispy, or sometimes it can be soggy in the middle.

Also Bonefish Grill, Carraba's, and Mama Lucia's are local favs of mine : )

Have had his cupcakes and bread from the grocery store, and they are excellent : ) Especially the gingerbread with vanilla icing ones, yummmy!
