Mad Drum Circle Skillz & Trance Drum and Dance at The Space! Every Tuesday!

MAD DRUM CIRCLE SKILLS! (aka Un-Squaring the Drum Circle) 7-8 PM
This class will focus on learning correct technique for hand drumming (all drums welcome) and the fundamental skills for joyfully contributing to the rhythmic expression and diversity of a community drum circle. We will study the principles of construction of traditional rhythms (polyrhythm, cross-rhythm, beat displacement, etc.) through drills and exercises designed to encourage exploration and personal expression, and you will learn how to apply these in your own playing starting right now!

TRANCE DRUM AND DANCE 8-9 PM
Drummers and Dancers welcome! Using principles from the "Mad Drum Circle Skills" class and playing at specific tempos associated with trance induction (in the alpha and theta ranges) we will create a guided sound environment appropriate for movement exploration or regenerative meditation. Aside from guidance before the music and brief discussion afterwards, this will be a word-free zone (other sounds permitted and even encouraged!) to enable deeper internalization.

FEE: Suggested donation: $10 per session. A portion of all donations will be sent in to a non-profit organization each week (see the facebook events for each week's selected organization). If your ability to donate in cash is limited, we would still like to welcome you; in the spirit of a Gift Economy, we would ask that you give what you can and then do something nice to benefit someone else in the following week in the spirit of paying it forward. :)
