JAMMIN! Drum School Worldbeat Hand Drumming

6:30pm JAMMIN! Beginner Drumming with Mark DeMaio (Greywolf is backup teacher) Proper Djembe hand technique; drills and fundamental orchestrated multi-part rhythms

7:30pm Congolese Drumming Class with Master Thobos Lubamba! (Greywolf is backup teacher) Congolese Master Drummer Thobos Lubamba provides us an opportunity to study traditional central African rhythms, very different from West African styles in both instrumentation and structure! Some traditional instruments will be even available for class use. Thobos is one of the most knowledgeable individuals alive with regard to Congolese rhythm! He was the director of the percussion group at the Conservatory in Kinshasa (capital of the DCR) during the period when the traditional rhythms were being studied and preserved, and was member of the groups that took these rhythms to their next evolutionary phase! It is an UNREAL opportunity to study with him!

8:30pm JAMMIN! Intermediate Drumming with Greywolf Djun-djun and other stick techniques; more complex rhythms, Dun-Dun parts and solo phrases for basic rhythms.

9:30pm JAMMIN! Advanced Drumming with Greywolf Additional instrumentation and yet more complex rhythms; Odd Time Signatures; Performance Breaks and Leads; Ensemble pieces

ANY CLASS $12
ANY TWO or more classes on the same night $10 each

Information about the origins and uses of the rhythms in their original context will be included; individual feedback on technique will be provided. Rhythms will be provided online in Box Notation form as an aid to memory and practice. Drums are available for class use; call to reserve. All instrumentation is also available for purchase through the JAMMIN! School:[masked]-0525.

outside of meetup, how many people go? age limitations?

We usually get between 6 and 10 for Beginner and Congolese classes. Children are welcome; we do our best to keep them engaged during what is an adult-paced class. It is the parent's responsibility to take breaks as needed when a child's attention span is challenged by the goal-oriented nature of the workshops. :) Both Mark and I do have lots of experience incorporating children into the mix without slowing down the pace of the class. Hope that helps!
