Good Discussion

Hey folks,
Its really good to see a positive discussion going on here. Odette and I were really depressed about how much politics and unhappiness had invaded our fun time. It looks like some good things have been suggested for some sort of sharing of responsibilities for the website between Justin and Michael and for recouping personal expenses. I was upset by the way I heard the site was obtained by Michael but I really do think it will turn into a great thing for everyone's events, especially the Secret Lake group as it looks like you have 3 or 4 more on this list saying they'll stop by. I've gotta say that for mine and Odette's part, we will keep coming to Thursdays, time allowing, we have made some great music there. And this deal where people are showing up with guitars and the like is a wonderful thing. We are sick tonight with a nasty flu, so we will keep our germs away, but we hope to see y'all next Thursday; and every other central florida drum event we can work in. By the way, among the others mentioned, we really want to hear more about the kissimmee group, times and locations.  We are grateful to Justin for running the Secret Lake Circle for the past year at his own expense and effort and have learned a lot by being part of the group.

Yes, I was at the circle Sunday, sorry we missed each other. There was a lot of people there so it hard to connect with everyone with a hello. I was playing a djembe and a single conga on a stand. We'll catch up at the next event. Are you attending any of the workshops this weekend? I'll be at the Middle Eastern trance drum workshop Friday night. Maybe we can meet each other there.
be well,

So everyone knows, the Meetup forum is not free. It cost $20 per month to run this forum. So far these costs have come directly out of pocket from Justin and myself. I am starting to list workshops with fees on the group's calendar, but only if those events help sponsor the forum financially.
Right now, I'm charging $5 per month with a four month minimum buy-in. These rates are only for workshops and I they are very reasonable. Workshops are important for individual and community growth. It is also important to financially support our teachers with their minimum fees. Teachers have dedicated their life to the drum; their leadership makes the magic of the drum circle possible for the rest of us.
In rhythm,

CFL Drum Folks,
Thanks for the clarification Michael. I think the changes are working well and I'm glad to see our community is growing. As our community grows we will hopefully see a wide range of events and circles with different purposes. The 'Central FLorida' title works well and helps keep us connected. The drummers and the drum circle community should be welcoming and ready to grow (cause its happening folks). In time we will hopefully have a huge list of circles across the CFL. There are so many and so many types of people that one circle can't feed them all. Some will be very welcoming to anyone, others will have standards of being, and others will have musical standards (African, Middle Eastern, Latin, etc) . While we only have two the choices are slim, but when we have many we can skip the ones we can't make or don't feel welcome in. There is no reason to but heads or sling shame.?

*One note for Michael: you stated that you would post all 'free' drum circle events, but the two you emailed about are not free. I understand why, but consistency is important when communicating to everyone. If we are going to promote all things drum, cool I can't wait to read more. But if the group doesn't have this in mind we should keep it as free. If there is an issue with Free or no free maybe the $ events can be promoted through emails and no$ events should be on the calendar. (not sure if this would work, but I hope you enjoyed my 2 cents :-)

now.... 1-2-3 everybody drum!
