Worldwide Motorcycle Awareness Ride

I noticed the time on the "official" site is 8 AM
Please Note this ride will meet @ 900 am and depart by 930.
I will be there at 8 in the event someone misses this time difference

This is a direct copy(and paste) of the ride site. I suggest we share it with ALL our fellow Riders and make a point to get out.

Worldwide Motorcycle Awareness Ride
Get out and ride!!!

Be a part of the largest ride in the world! The first annual WMAR will take place on this date. Meet Up, as well as hundreds of other riding clubs and groups from all over the world, are participating.

All we ask is you wear bright green, bright yellow, or orange shirts. "CAN YOU SEE ME NOW" shirts are available from PMRG. Check 'em out and order today. http://www.cafepress.... They are also available from here http://www.hotleather... .

I will lead a ride out of Cheese Quake rest area.
9:00 am MeetUp and departing a bit after 9:30am

Please show even if your not going out !

This is a short ride and routed for Exposure

Speed limit will be kept.

Remember to wear bright colors. I will try to gather some more groups to join us or we can ride with them if possible.

This is the route I think will give the most exposure.

Any input will be considered and appreciated.

I have been in touch with the organizers of this idea for a few weeks. I asked them to provide me with the link to the Cafe Press site to order the t-shirts. I moved my previous ride so that I can concentrate on this ride.

Roger - Please let me know how I can help since I committed to the organizers that I would.

I have invited some other area groups to join us. Hopefully some of them can make it. The more people who participate, the better to build awareness.

Like I've always said, the more the merrier.
Maybe this is the day we get to take over the highways and have the cars at our advantage? LOL.

Deb I too think it's a great idea thanks for inviting other area groups
I have been telling everyone I know that rides.
When cagers see groups such as our own with custom cruisers , sport bikes and even dual-sports I think it sends a stronger message that just any of the above Its easy to say them stupid crotch rockets or bikers..... but when you see our diversity in force you may rethink your thought pattern so please everyone invite all your riding buddies.

I am going to contact the media next week and we should contact local motorcycle dealers. I can create a flyer this week. Anyone have any contacts?

Are you going to fax the flyer to the dealerships?
I have a connection with a local free Jersey Reporter paper.
Just let me know what exactly to tell him and maybe he can write something up and get it in the paper.

I think you should stick with the original plan and ride to the Holland Tunnel and then up the West Side Hwy to the GWB. I for one do not want to get stuck in the GWB toll traffic. It's always bad.

There is some concern about the number of tolls, the cost and not having EZ Pass. I am sure that Roger will have a way to wait for everyone at the tolls. Although tolls are pricey, Roger felt this was the best route. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to post them.

Absolutely no feedback. I had planned to hand out a bunch of flyers next Tuesday at Cheeseburger in paradise but I can't make it due to my cousins surgery. Hopefully, someone else can. I assume this ride is rain or shine but let's hope for shine. I also understand that they want to make this an annual thing.

At first I thought the Higher exposure would be to go over the bridge and into the city, however others have raised concern about "traffic' So we will be heading into the city via the Lincoln Tunnel and out over the GWB .
If anyone needs it routed give me a day and I'll post it.

I think we should have two groups in close proximity, first one consisting of the no EZ pass riders and the second group that is so equipped. This way the slower group stays in front and we continue to show a larger contingent .

Just a question Roger. Why the Lincoln Tunnel now?

    Posted May 19, 2010 at 5:53 PM
  • Roger R
    Roger R

BECAUSE I SAID SO! No, not really, I had originally thought the GWB then the Holland but after going in and out of the city what seems to be a dozen times in a couple weeks and hearing members concerns about traffic, I decided to avoid the lights on the southern end of the west side highway (which is what we'll be riding up to the GWB) and what seemed to me to be heavier traffic at that point. .

Seems a few people (the Yankees) of this group are asking for a northern rallying point. Could we possibly meet at the gas station on the right 2 lights before the tunnel after coming over the bridge to Holland Tunnel? Any other suggestions.

I will be there rain or shine. I often travel to LI via the Lincoln Tunnel on a Sunday morning. There will be little to no traffic at that time unless something unforeseen happens.

Guys try to make it to the meet uo spot .
I'll see what point I can arrange by the Lincoln Tunnel
We will bee coming down to Kennedy BLVD the making the right . then another right into the tunnel
We could meet over by where Sang-hi Reds used to be
    Would that work?

About what time Roger??? Just a general idea would be OK.

Don't know anything about a Shang-Hi-Reds. But in the top of your last email you said across from the Chart House in the big parking lot. That would work for me.
It's just up the street from the Houlihans in Weehawken, and just North of Hoboken.
If anybody up North needs info on this location give me a call.

    1015 for the northern group.
Please be ready at that time guys. I promised myself not to have secondary pickups after waiting around for others a couple of times but don't like leaving those who wish to ride out either.
So I'll see you there about 10:15am

OK, that's great Roger. So we are definitely going through the Lincoln Tunnel correct???

I also had a thought earlier but did not share it.
Since we will be up North, why not take a nice scenic route up 9W??? Maybe to Nyack NY. It's a very nice eclectic town with lots of places to eat. Just throwing it out there as an idea.

It is best you not come.
Naturally I would love for everyone to come out but we understand many do have issues with wet roads and I rather you ride confidently and safely than endanger yourself and others.
I am going to be at the meetup spot shortly after eight
give yourselves some extra time to gas up ....

Thanks Roger for a great ride. Loved that addition along the river and under the GW Bridge. Nice to meet some new faces. Thanks Ray for helping out your fellow riders by sweeping and blocking traffic for us. I've posed a few questions to Tony regarding proper riding procedures in the message/safety discussion board.

Had a great outing Thanks to the wonderful group that came out. Wish I wouldn't have discouraged anyone this morning as we ended up not having rain (at all). but in the interest of everyones safety, I think if you weren't sure and you stayed home you all did the right thing Next year! We will be 100 strong!

Once again Roger, excellent job in organizing, leading, and always looking out for everyone's safety. I also want to thank you and the rest of the group for your understanding as to why I decided to cage it (50% chance of rain) and allowing me to still participate in a ride to honor our fallen riders and raise awareness. Perhaps next year, as suggested by Mike (Fix-It), we should again have a cage as a sweeper and place messages on the windows to alert the traffic as to why we were riding. Kudos to both Debbie and Martin for suggesting Jose Tejas for the after ride meal....now pass the chips and salsa...please...Awesome scenery and thank God the weather held up. Can't wait until next year!
