Kickstands up: 8:15 AM

The plan is to first ride to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Maine since it is the easternmost point in the continental US. http://www.lighthouse.cc/westquoddy/ We will then ride to Saint John, New Brunswick. We will see the Bay of Fundy from Hopewell Rocks, where they have the highest tide in the world. We will then ride to Nova Scotia and explore Cape Breton.

Proposed Route: http://tinyurl.com/3j2wwom

Here is some info about Nova Scotia http://www.motorcycletourguidens.com/about-nova-scotia

Stan had shared this link with me.  It seems to be pretty good.  http://cabottrailbiker.com/

We will stop every 100 to 120 miles for gas, leg stretch, restrooms and drinks. We will also stop for lunch.  Everyone is encouraged to top off their tank unless you are sure that you can make it to the next stop.  We will be limiting breaks to 10 - 15 minutes in order to keep moving on the longer riding days.  Lunch will obviously be a longer break.

Note 1: You must get a Non-Residential Inter-Province Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance Card through your motorcycle insurance company.  Thanks to Martin, we now have more info on this.   The entire process until you have the card in hand takes up to 10 days since it has to be processed by mail. Also, it is bike specific.  So if you have more than one bike and you aren't sure which you are taking, get one for both bikes.

Note 2: You must have a passport to enter Canada.

Note 3: All routes will be posted in .gpx (Garmin) and .itn (Tom Tom) format.  To save them, right click on the link, choose "save as" and save to your computer.  Then upload to your GPS.  Tyre was used to create these routes.

Note 4: You should see if your bank has an arrangement with a bank in Canada where you don't incur ATM fees to withdraw cash.  We can then try to find an ATM since we will need some Canadian Dollars.  For example, Bank of America has an alliance with Scotia Bank. A 1% fee may be incurred when converting currency to CAD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_ATM_Alliance

TD Bank customers can withdraw from TD Canada Trust with no additional fees.

Note 5: For the GPS files, right click, choose "save as", save to your computer and then upload to your GPS unit.

Thanks, Steve, for letting us know you heard from Robb. That was a nasty ticket .... and cop! Those 6 points are going to be on his record for a long time; plus his insurance will probably go up. All that hard riding you guys did in Canada, and he gets a ticket in the USA. We all speed - I feel really bad that he got caught by such a sucky cop. We should take up a collection. I'll start it off with $10.00 - just let me know how to get it to him.

I'm afraid that I have horrible news. My neighbor back in Clark, who still lives across the street from my parents was in a moped accident yesterday. She suffered a TBI and is in an induced coma. I know that none of you know her but she is a special girl to me. I have always hoped that this would never happen to anyone that I knew after I suffered my TBI. Please say a prayer for Alex and her Family!

thank god. if it's this bad with the helmet on, i don't want to think about how bad it would have been without the helmet. hopefully it absorbed enough of the blow to prevent severe damage.

hopefully they can take her out of the coma soon, but then again they want to make sure any swelling and bleeding/etc is taken care of before they do that.

As of now, I believe tomorrow they are taking her out of her induced coma. I'm so happy she had her helmet on. I pray that she won't have to relearn everything like I did: walk, talk, dress, feed myself and try to regain my balance. Thanks Dave!

This trip was awesome, cool peeps, great scenery and lots of riding. Who could ask for anything more :) Props to Debbie for all her hard work. It was a pleasure to meeting Lynda and Phyllis, you gals are cool as hell to hang with. Even with all the rain, it did not stop this group from having fun. Thank you all for the lasting memories and I even got my new meetup nickname from it (thanks Phyllis)

Had an awesome trip. Loved the Cabot Trail. Enjoyed meeting everyone and finding new friends. I tried my hardest to keep up but the leg was hurting somewhat! I can sleep late tomorrow however I think that I will wake up thinking that I over slept for the days ride. I can honestly say that I feel much more comfortable riding in the rain :-)

For those with space issues like me, I am doing laundry in Baddeck so I do not have to pack as much. There is no service in Baddeck that does your laundry for you besides a dry cleaning service at our local CO-OP. The hotel has a laundromat on the property that we are welcome to use. They sell laundry soap and dryer sheets at the front desk for $1.00 each.

Forecast for Tue when we ride the Cabot Trail isn't good. So here is my thought. If it's still not favorable by Sunday night, we leave extra early on Monday, drop our bags at the hotel in Baddeck and ride the Cabot Trail clockwise. If it turns out the forecast is wrong and it's favorable on Tue, we do our original planned route of counterclockwise on the Cabot Trail.

Just a word of caution; being from the Garden State, most of us are very aware of the deer population and occasionally a bear could be encountered during our travels. The moose population can be a real hazard during this trip from New England on up, especially on the Cabot Trail. We encountered moose on all three trips to the Maritime Provinces; even during the day! I would advise you all to remain alert and try to be off the road before nightfall.

    Happy trails and ride safe.

    Just a thought:

    http://traveltips.usatoday.com/health-insurance-travel-canada-18318.html

A good friend of mine had a motorcycle accident on the Gaspe' Peninsula a few years ago which required transportation to a hospital and some surgery. If it wasn't for his American Express Card, he would have been S.O.L.

Check with your carrier regarding coverage outside the U.S..

    Your itinerary looks great. I did a Maritime Tour in '80, '93, & '98.

Routes are final unless I get some more tips from a local like I did recently.

Just got the bike back and it's ready to go. New light assemblies, brake cables, and oil change. Runs like a top.

My Dad told me about Magnetic Hill in Moncton. Unfortunately, they charge a hefty fee ($5) now so I will be skipping it but thought I would share it for those interested.

I am going to book our dinner at the German restaurant on Day 7 in the next few days (By Friday). Please reconfirm that you will be attending. I plan on securing a 7 PM reservation time.

Steve - I know you may not have internet access right now so I will include you in the count.

Good news. The hotel called back. The private party in the book was us. The guy was totally confused but someone who spoke very good English gave me a call back. So we are in for the German dinner. They wanted to do a special menu but I asked if we could just order off the regular menu. They said that is not a problem but it just might take slightly longer to get out food. I told them we are absolutely ok with that. I assume we are? I didn't want to try to limit what we get since we probably all have varied tastes.

Bad news. I called to make a reservation for the German Restaurant. He is fully booked for a private party on Sept 5th. I can't believe it. I don't see any way to change our plans so that we could be there on the 4th or 6th, which is available for dinner. Goes with the way my life has been going lately. Sorry everyone. If anyone has any thoughts, happy to hear them.

I haven't heard from Rebecca, Joe or Harvey about the German restaurant. I am calling tomorrow so please let me know if you will be joining us for dinner on Day 7.

Debbie: at this point I would consider the German restaurant a better choice than the local golden arches etc; so count me in as a "will-attend" at the German restaurant. Harv
