Our first overnight ride of 2008...We are planning to ride north on Hwy 89 through Page, and continue toward Kanab, Utah. This is an easy 300 mile putt, so we should arrive before dinner.

The Shilo Inn or Aikens Lodge, both in Kanab, have rooms available for $60 a night (double occupancy). Both hotels have pools and biker-friendly parking. I think the Shilo Inn is non-smoking only.

Sunday morning, after an early breakfast, we will ride down the 89A back into Arizona, toward Jacob Lake and the North Rim. Talk about a great place to hold CAB Sunday services! I have been to the Grand Canyon many times, but never to the North Rim. I can only imagine how spectacular it must be.

The return trip will take us through the Vermillion Cliffs and Marble Canyon, back down Hwy 89 toward Cameron. Here, we will head west on the 64 toward the South Rim, and on down Hwy 180 into Williams.

You all know the way home from here, unless anyone wants to check out the Desert Road Riders MC 15th Annual Great Escape Rally (which will probably be just about over by the time we get there).

So, we are looking at almost 700 miles round-trip, with one night in Kanab. If this weekend adventure sounds good to you, just mark your calendars for July 12th and 13th, be sure and RSVP to let us know your plans, and we will continue to look for overnight lodging in Utah. This is a world-class ride (are ya listening, Frenchie?) so make your plans early. I hope we see everyone then.

Looks like a 7-day pass is going to cost $12 per person, or $25 per vehicle. This should cover you at the North Rim, and either entrance at the South Rim. I don't expect to be going back within a week's time, but it looks like we should have no trouble breezing through the South Rim on the way home. http://www.nps.gov/grca/pla... (B-D)>

Frenchie and Wildcat, Glad to hear you two will be making this run. I'm also glad you'll be staying at Aiken's Lodge. It should be a hoot! I can hardly wait to see the North Rim. I'm wondering though; since we plan on riding through the South Rim on the way back home, will the one-day National Park pass work for both the North Rim & the South Rim? I don't want anyone to be caught off-guard, so I will try to look around online. If anyone knows for sure, feel free to give a shout. (B-D)>

Wow, that's a tough call, girl. If it were me, I'd either trade with someone, or just wait till next ride. I hate to say it, but with time pressure like that, you would just be setting yourself up for a disappointment. Maybe you could just ride part of the way up, and ride back the same day (Saturday)? It would save you from having to get a room, and there's no way you'll see the North Rim anyhow. If I were in your shoes, I think I would quit work and start living on the road. You could do it!

Update on Kanab Lodging. Aikens Lodge (877) 644-2105, will give us AAA prices, as follows: Single Queen @ $53 (2 available), Two Double Beds @ $65 (4 available), Two Bedrooms (sleep 4) @ $75 (3 available), and Three Bedroom (sleep 6) @ $88 (1 available). No kitchenettes, but there is a nice pool, and parking is "biker-friendly". Call with a credit card and talk to Amber, or owners Bill and Krista, to reserve your room...or check out their website @ http://www.aikenslodge.com/... (B-D)>

We had a very good time, enjoyed everyones company.
    •  Thanks to everyone for making this ride such a success. Jen's ankle is healing nicely. We all made it home safely. Tons of great memories, and tons of great pictures...thankfully, no photographic evidence of the pool party! Mother nature finally caught us on the home stretch, but she couldn't dampen our spirits. Y'all know we barely scratched the surface of the scenery and the fun. I haven't even washed my bike yet, and I'm ready for another overnighter. Next time we should plan a few extra days on the road.
