Hi Amy! Kids/teens are very much welcome! While not super regular we've even had 7-8 year olds soldering in the past. The only thing I should probably mention is that is often beer at the meetup if that is something that would be an issue. :)
Otherwise completely welcome to come and participate. A great deal of us probably have as much or less experience with the subject as your son. :)
