This is the second time this happened. Im no longer going to attempt to meet with these people again. I have more important things to do than waste time only to get stood up.

I have only been to one meeting so it is a little hard to judge at this time, however it was very interensting. I wish I had known about it a long time ago. It is nice to have like minded people to talk with.

I think it was a good talk in general. I've been an atheist all of my 39 years. I've just become aware I could be an atheist in public only last month. There are a whole litany of books I'm trying to catch up on reading. I've only been to two of these meetups, I sort of felt like I was walking into the middle of an on-going conversation with everyone else in the group. While I don't know everything about the topics, I'm doing the best I can to learn what I can. This meetup in particular didn't really talk about the topic it was advertised as. We had one guy ask a question about how prayer in government agencies conflicted with church-state separation, but the speaker even said that since most people in his constituency are believers,he wouldn't give it much priority. What? To his credit, the speaker did say he would look into it further. Having complained so much, I still think these meetups are great and the host does a good job giving information to new people, but it could be better

So far, so good. I met a couple very friendly people who made me feel welcome and at home right away at the Wednesday evening lecture. I came away from this feeling I was in the right place and could truly be myself. How refreshing. I can't wait to take part in more events and look forward to involving my children, as well. I think this will be a positive and rewarding experience that my children and I can participate in as well as eventually serve in our community. I love that we are all linked through the online Meetup, facebook or CFI website. I'm happy to see many events planned, and that people really do want to learn, share and make a difference. We need each other for support and we need to give our next generation the skills to be well educated, critical thinkers who care and who may take leadership positions in the future. It's nice to have a group of like minded folk to bounce ideas and experiences off of. Thank you CFI for being here!

This is a good forum for questioning one's faith and belief system. This group is important because it asks everyone to use their mind and apply reason rather than blind faith. However, I sense there is an antagonism against religion and mysticism that I do not find entirely healthy. Although there has been a history of violence performed in the name of religion, absence of religion will not improve matters. Religion is not the problem, people are. I agree with Albert Einstein, "Science without religion is lame, Religion without science is blind". Like Einstein, I no longer believe in a personal God. However, I do believe that humanity has imagination and can think of things not yet proven. Therefore, we should not dismiss religion and mysticism but embrace it as an imaginative way of thinking and realize that someday science will put this imagination into proper perspective. In the meantime, we need to keep appreciating one another for our differing perspectives.
