METRO MONTHLY: Gay Marriage in Oregon -- Lecture, Potluck, Drinks & Child Care

***METRO MONTHLY ***

Child care provided.

Will Worthy, Director of the Garden Home Library, will lead a storytime that will run about 40 minutes, including songs and stickers--he knows what kids like!

Presentation followed by potluck and drinks.

This Month:  Gay Marriage Initiative for Oregon in 2014

This is our regular monthly meeting at a central location to bring together our members from all over the Portland metro area, and anyone who wants to join us. We’ll have a speaker presentation, discussion or entertainment, followed by a shared potluck lunch.

The Oslo Lounge has a bar, so you can have beer, wine and cocktails with lunch. This is also an opportunity to connect with others in the community, get updated on our activism and what’s going on in the community, talk to Advisory Board members and give input.

Child care will be provided in the Norse Hall’s children’s room.

Please bring a dish suitable for a proper meal to share.
We'll likely have more food than necessary, so plan on joining us even if you are unable to bring food. If possible, label your utensils and serving dishes so the owner can be identified if things are left behind. If you don’t cook, consider a bagged salad with dressing, or a roast chicken from a grocery store.

Today’s speaker and presentation: A representative from Basic Rights Oregon will talk about marriage equality in the United States, and a representative of Oregon United for Marriage will discuss the gay marriage initiative for the 2014 election.

During our 2013 meetings, we’ll have two Sunday morning and two Friday evening meetings in order to determine which time works best for our members. After that, we’ll pick one consistent time.

Sunday Schedule
11:00am Welcome and announcements
11:15am Presentation and Q&A
12:00am Children join the adults for a potluck lunch, discussion and socializing.

Parking
There is a parking lot next to the Norse Hall, where we have limited parking. Street parking is also available.

Note: This meeting also replaces our monthly Sunday brunches and our Nuts+Bolts+Beer meetings, because everything that happens at those meetings will take place at the monthly meeting.

The Mormon church has officially reaffirmed its position against marriage equality at the LDS Church’s 183rd Semiannual General Conference. Read this Salt Lake Tribune article for some golden quotes that seem to point to the Apostle forgetting the church's recent theological shift on polygamy and racism. http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/news/56965652-78/god-lds-marriage-church.html.csp?page=1

I'm not surprised. That's what I was asking about last Sunday: Will we have to deal with the Latter Day Saints the way they did in California for Prop 8?

Hi folks! Come upstairs afterward! You might want to hang out a bit longer at Norse Hall today: Stomptown LGBTQ Country Dance starts upstairs in the Lodge Room at 2:00 pm and we'd like to invite you all to stop by: mention today's BRO/Oslo Lounge event for half-off entry! See our MeetUp page: Meetup.com/Stomptown. We'd love to see you and think you'll have a lot of fun. PS: We've had excellent results collecting signatures for the initiative at our entry desk!

    Are teenagers welcome?

Yes, they are. All ages :-)

It looks like this conflicts with Jon Peters' talk at HGP.

All I know (from attending HGP meetings for over 10 years) is that their speaker slot is from 10:15-11:15. And Google says the drive from there to Norse Hall takes 11-15 minutes. Maybe there've been special arrangements made in this case. I didn't/don't mean to be difficult, just mentioned a potential conflict (which Sylvia answered).

Jon is a CFI Advisory Board member and will join us after his talk at HGP for the potluck. So you can pick his brain after :-)

I will probably not be attending the lecture because my daughter wouldn't sit for it but I'd love to see you all at the brunch!

No I won't. Should have checked my calendar before confirming. Ooops
