3rd Annual Dark-to-Light Gala

Dark-to-Light Gala

Flickering candles, live jazz, a thoughtful meal, festive attire, and a dance party after dinner – the night will be ours!  On this evening during the season when our hemisphere turns from darkness to light, we come together to celebrate humanity’s emergence into knowledge and reason, and to recognize science as a “candle in the dark,” as Carl Sagan suggested.

Let us take time together to enjoy the finer things in life and to celebrate the wonder of reality.

Buy your tickets HERE by December 6th:
$37 for CFI members
$45 for CFI guests
$8 for Children

IMPORTANT: RSVPing on this event page will not guarantee you a seat. Our caterers and volunteers will plan the event only based on purchased tickets. Please go to the ticket link by December 6th to let them know you are coming.

Children are invited to participate, volunteers will be on hand to help to keep them occupied. There will be a play and sleep area for little ones during the celebration.

7:00pm Cocktail Reception
8:00pm Dinner
9:00pm Dancing and Silent Science Auction

Entertainment with Jazz stylings by the Bill Lamb Band.  Bill Lamb is the founder of the NW Science Expo, a retired science teacher, and a member of the band The Boomers.

Chef Tricia Dahms, a local caterer and talented chef, will be preparing our meal. She has earned her stripes through her years at Jake's Catering, and now hones her skills at Imperial on Broadway under Chef Vitaly Paley.

For the first time, we will put on the celebration almost entirely with community volunteers!  If you are interested in volunteering, or donating an auctionable item, please contact Camille at [masked] or at[masked]-0896.

You will be asked for your dinner and dessert combination as a ticket choice.  Dinner choices are: Pork Tenderloin, Roasted Root Vegetables, and Braised Kale with an Apple Mustard Demi Sauce or Steamed Mussels, Braised Greens and Crusty Bread.  The vegetarian Option: Polenta cakes, Roasted Root Vegetables and Braised Greens - Dessert choices are: Flourless Chocolate Cake with Dark Chocolate Glaze or Salted Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake

Seating is limited.  RSVP today and buy your tickets HERE.

Andy, if you can pick out a couple of your favorite photos that give a good depiction of the event, please shoot them over to me. I want to send out a message now about how successful the event was but want to wait until I have good photos. Thanks!

I'm trying to find Parking info - we could take the MAX/Trimet, but it would take 1hr instead of 23 mins to get there, lol. Still, we might consider it if parking is going to be a pain.

    December 13, 2013

    • Dave D.

I'm not going, but parking hasn't been much of a problem there in the past. There's a parking lot on the southwest corner of the same block which you should be able to use, not to mention street parking.

The Gala is being taken over by Tribbles from Trek in the Park! Silent auctions with tribbles are the best sort of auctions that there are!

Camille here! We are busy this week getting everything prepared for the big year end bash, the Dark-to-Light Gala! If you'd like to come and donate some time to preparing food, I would love your help and company. To sweeten the deal, I'll sharpen two of your knives for you, if you give me an hour of your time. If you like decorating and making sure things are just so, we'd love to have you help us set up the room on the day of the event! Many hands make light work! Message me!

Whoops, I was looking at the wrong month -- so it is Friday the 13th, but 2nd question still stands.
    Thanks, M

Yes, Mary, we'll have name cards for everyone who has purchased tickets.

I'm assuming you mean Friday, December 15 -- as the 13th is a Wednesday....
For those of us who pre-paid online, do we just leave our name at the door?

I'm so glad, Peter! It looks like we will twice as many people this year, and we have a live band this year. It's going to be the party of the year that no one will want to miss!

Hi- I was wondering if there will be main course options for the vegetarian types like me :) Also the ticket page say the event is on NW Hoyt?
I will assume it is at Norse Hall on the east side...
    Thanks, Nancy
