METRO MONTHLY–DR Schreiber, the Historical Conjurer

Our regular monthly Meeting! Presentation followed by a community party with dinner and drinks. Child care provided during the presentation.

This Month: Professor DR Schreiber, the Historical Conjurer

Early in the 18th century, magic, or conjuring as it was referred, emerged as a genuine art form and entertainment.  Professors of natural philosophy and conjuring would rent taverns, legitimate theaters or lecture halls for the exhibition and displays of legerdemain, necromancy, or what would today be called “illusion” and “magic tricks.”  Top dollar would be paid by the citizens of Europe to see the latest discoveries in the science of “natural philosophy.”

Today, Professor DR Schreiber presents an historic look at the beginnings of modern magic in his performances and exhibitions.  Join Professor DR Schreiber as he leads you on a stroll through the past centuries of conjuring entertainment.

His unique presentation will entertain while educating us about historical events, literary and cultural figures, and the science and art of conjuring.

The Oslo Lounge has a bar, so you can have beer, wine and cocktails with dinner.  This is also an opportunity to connect with others in the community, get updated on our activism and what’s going on in the community, talk to Advisory Board members and give input.

Child care will be provided in a separate room. We are working on an actual program of stories, games, lessons and critical thinking activities to present to children of different ages. If you are interested in getting involved with this effort, please contact any of the organizers of this meetup event.

Volunteers will provide the food! We now have a team of volunteers who will cook a hearty meal for everyone. We we just ask that you help our volunteers pay for the ingredients by making a donation of $ 5.00 per adult meal so that our volunteers can buy ingredients. Children eat free.

Schedule

7:00 pm:  Welcome and announcements
7:10 pm:  Presentation and Q&A
8:00 pm:  Children join the adults for a potluck dinner, discussion and socializing
