Annual Walk the Solar System

Our Solar system is REALLY BIG.  No picture has been made that accurately represents it; therefore most people can't grasp how huge our sun is, or how far apart the planets are.

Using everyday objects for the planets, we will be spending 90 minutes at Swan Island setting up a 1:6,336,000,000 scale model of our solar system... walking from our orange bowling ball sun, past our peppercorn Earth, all the way to Neptune, for a total of a quarter mile!

Aimed for kids, but everyone should experience this at least once in their life.

During the walk you'll learn other facts about the planets as well as be able to visualize how small our sun is compared to the most massive stars we've observed, how fast the speed of light moves, and what it would take to get to our next door neighboring solar system.

The event is free and there will be gifts for the participating children.  Click HERE to register through July 13th to help organizers gauge this year's turn-out.

That 11 a.m. time looks good... we don't have kids - if my husband and I come at 11, we won't be bumping any kids from participating, would we?

Correct. As many adults can come as they like. I just needed a head count for the kids so I knew how many gifts to buy.

I look forward to seeing everyone this Sunday for the Solar System walk. Due to the number of signups, we will be splitting the event into two sessions. Choose whichever session you wish this Sunday. Other than the start time they should be identical.
    Session 1) 9AM to 10:30
    Session 2) 11AM to 12:30

The event will happen rain or shine, so remember to wear sunscreen or bring an umbrella, plus your walking shoes.

We have enough gifts for 5 more kids, so if you know of anyone else interested in going have them email me:[masked]

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
