Excellent chocie of venue, easy to find. Great idea having a placard showing where the picnic was held. Good variety of food and of course was an opportunity to meet more of the members.

I see the park has a volleyball court. Is there any interest in playing? If so, does anyone have a volleyball? Ours is deflated.

I'll bring a couple extra chairs.

    Map of Laurelhurst park:
    http://www.portlandonline.com/p...
the map shown is turned 90 degrees with the south (Oak Street) at the left side of the page and the east (Cesar Chavez or 39th Ave) at the bottom of the page.

The correct picnic site is site A, which is in the SW corner of the park, near SE 35th and Oak.

I've always found maps frustrating to read, gah! I just sent out a location correction but Picnic Site A is indeed in the SW corner of the park so no correction needed.

Someone thinking of becoming a member asked me "but what do they talk about". I think DaniT clarified well. We are human beings with the same concerns and problems as everyone else.

I've got a number of friends who are religious but non imposing. I'm fine with that. Live and let live.

Casey, for some reason potlucks are one of our more popular events. I think it might be because it's precisely not an event to talk about religion, or for any other purpose than to just get together with like-minded people. When a church community gets together they don't talk about religion. They talk about kids, jobs, whatever. I think that if your wife came she'd go away with an entirely different view of nontheists. She'll find that we're pretty much just like everybody else.

Trying to convince my wife we should go- she's not atheist but not religious either. I guess you could say she falls into the "it's complicated" category. Apparently she thinks I'm an atheist fundie... or something. I guess she thinks all we'll do is bash on religious folks and not be 'accepting.' Hrrrm.

I'm going to make a black bean, corn, salsa thing. Not sure what I call it, just a bunch of stuff sloshed together in a bowl

Btw my hubbs plays guitar n I sing, we'll learn a couple atheist themed songs to play at the event. If you want to play with us, call me at [masked] so we can put it together before then. Should be tons of fun!

I've added a link to the park's map. We'll also display our CFI banner and, I imagine, HGP will have one as well.

The park is quite large. Do you know in which part of the park we'll be meeting?

Thanks for pointing this out, Sheila. I didn't notice that when I selected Laurelhurst Park for location that it didn't give an address.

Can you clarify the location? I get a different location googling Laurelhurst Park on Google Maps than I do clicking on the link here.
