Hi all, Well, we've finally pulled together our first major speaking engagement for Portland area atheists, humanists, skeptics, and other friends of reason. Lawrence Krauss, renowned cosmologist, physicist, author, and public science advocate will be kicking off the new CFI Community of Portland at 7pm on October 14th in the OMSI auditorium. The main event is free to the public and we've reserved space for 300 people. His presentation will be:

“Science, Non-Science, and Nonsense: From the Classroom to the Capitol”

Thanks to all of your for your continued interest. It gives us great pleasure to bring in this caliber of speaker for the benefit of people like yourself who appreciate scientific and secular viewpoints. It stands to reason that events like this incur significant costs, and our ability to continue to bring in speakers and hold events depends upon financial support from the community we serve. We plan to do much more, but we cannot without your help. So please consider becoming a Friend of the Center to help support ongoing efforts. In appreciation of Friends of the Center (FotC), Mr. Krauss has agreed to meet with FotC in a catered reception beginning at 6pm in a room near the OMSI auditorium before proceeding to his speech. It takes nearly a week before we see new Friends of the Center reflected on our enrollment list, so please sign up early to be eligible. Looking forward to seeing all of you there! Wow! You all came through beautifully, showing up in force, along with many members of the general community. Dr. Krauss illustrated very effectively the challenges to reason and science in our culture.
