RE: The 2-17-11 event "Happiness in the Workplace"

This is a free event open to the community, hosted at Intel. There will be both lecture and discussion in one hour, during lunch time. Prof. Chad Wiener teaches philosophy at PSU. Here's a preliminary outline:

1) Happiness as a moral issue
A) Role of happiness in different moral theories
B) Role of happiness in virtue ethics

2) How to conceive of happiness?
A) Happiness conceived as satisfaction of desires
B) Happiness conceived in terms of character

3) Relation of Happiness to Work under New Conception

Really wish I could get out of work to hit this D:

While I'd self identify as a Preference Utilitarianism (though I'm slowly being seduced into desirism), I really have a soft spot for Aristotelian ethics, broadly in reference to what you ought to do (while utilitarianism has what you ought not to do pretty securely locked down).

Even if people disagree with the speaker, it should be good for discussion... to pick each other's brains. If people aren't shy, we should have a good Q&A session.
