Topical Discussion Group

Hello folks!  It is time, once again, to invite you all to attend our next topical discussion group on Tuesday May 13th, at 6 pm, upstairs in the IKE Box in Salem.

This month's topics include "Critical Thinking 101" a ten minute presentation by Brewster Coleman and our featured presentation "Robert Jay Lifton and the Theory of Mind Control", presented by Jordan Tucker.  You will be entertained by Brewster Coleman and Lisa Lee with other interesting tidbits as time allows.
During this month's new business we would like to gauge the interest in the following topics:  Increasing the frequency of meetings, email preferences, a panel discussion of some kind, member of the month, stepping up to the plate, meeting etiquette, promotion of the group at Saturday Market or somewhere else with a pamphlet created to encourage participation, and alternate meeting places as our group grows.

Please think about how YOU can inform the group about scientific, secular, or humanist issues that relate to you or your workplace.

We look forward to seeing you (and your friends) there!

We had a full house, folks! Seventeen people came to our May meetup. Thanks, Jordan, for the information about the techniques of influence! And thanks to Brewster also for his information on critical thinking! Next time we will have Mary Kate enlighten us about the Mormon religion. As well as a performance from Brewster and me. That still leaves a 10 minute presentation open for grabs! Who will step up to the plate?

Great progress in moving our agenda to be much more topic focused and engaging of all who attend. We just need to find a "regular" meeting space which will become all the more important as our numbers increase.

Welcome, Matthew! Cryonics would be a great thing for us to learn more about!

Greetings. I'm a 19 year-old freethinker who just moved into Salem from Maryland to start a job at the local Cryonics lab. I look forward to meeting you all at the upcoming meeting.
