Conversation on the Middle East with Samer Ali

I had several people tell me that they wished we had had more time to hear about the topics Samer discussed on May 20. So, we have scheduled a time for him to continue with a follow-up. This will be an informal discussion of Islam and the countries of the Middle East. You will likely find it interesting and informative even if you missed the event May 20.

Steve, again you've done great! I'm sure it took some effort to set up this second lecture with Samar Ali, given what must be a busy schedule on his part and enough responsibilities on yours in organizing and juggling so many functions! Samer Ali was as great this time as he was the first time. Thanks, Steve!

I'm glad you and others enjoyed it and perhaps learned something; however, it was not that big of a deal to set up.

The speaker is an EXCELLENT source on the subject. If anyone cannot make it, they have what amounts to a moral duty to cancel in order to let someone else show up.

This might seem a little off-topic, but I thought the discussion of how Islam is perceived by some prominent atheists was relevant to this subject:

Had to cancel, so my space has opened up.

I'd be interested in knowing more about the various factions in Syria and if without a strongman running the country, whether or not it would end in civil war/tribal warfare.

I hope we can cover in greater detail the main players in Egypt, Syria and Tunisia, where the Arab Spring started. Last night's lecture was very informative and interesting, and I'm sure this follow-up discussion will be just as good.
