Summer Solstice Cookout

A potluck and cook-out. We will have some burgers and franks to grill. Everyone brings a side and/or dessert to share, and something to drink [non-alcoholic beverages, please]. We will have ice and cups, too. You might want to bring folding chairs.

We will have this at the pavilion/gazebo near the Well's Branch community pool on Klattenhoff. BTW: non-residents may swim in the pool for $5.

6pm start time

Please add a comment or add to your RSVP a message about what you intend to bring to share.

Also, please indicate if you are willing to help with some of the chores. We need some folks to show up early (5:15 or so) to set things up; we need some cooks; we need a clean-up crew.

I will update the lists below every few hours until about 2pm Sunday. Also, I will delete comments that are out-dated.

There was a variety of tasty potluck dishes, and the company was lively, but the face-melting heat made me too sluggish to socialize.

Let's do this on the Vernal Equinox next year instead of the Summer Solstice. It's just toooooooooo hot!

A big thank-you to Eric and Steve for organizing this event. It was nice to get together for a cook-out, well, except for the heat and the flies...but what are ya gonna do. Next time perhaps we could have some music!

What a really nice group of people! Unpretentious and very friendly. The park was beautiful. I had never been to Wells Branch before. The only negative was the suffocating Austin heat and humidity, but, oh well. Food was great. Had a really nice time meeting others and enjoyed the conversations a great deal.

I'm bringing 'Inarizushi' (brown rice and shiitake mushrooms stuffed in tofu pockets) with some 'benishoga' (pickled ginger root). Also some diet sodas and my own chair.

They have dropped the cost on using the pool to $5 for non-residents... feel free to show up early and do a swim!

I think I'll bring tofu-ricotta cheese-spinach enchiladas instead, for a change, since my standard potluck dish might be getting a little tiring. But don't worry, they'll be just as inedible as my trademark tofu-tabouli salad!

It looks like we have about 30 people coming, but not all of them will have hamburgers - perhaps 2-3 heads of lettuce and 8-12 tomatoes? We could use excess to make salad.

I can bring lettuce and tomato about how much of each would be a safe amount?
