America's Sunday Supper

Sunday 6:00 pm- 7:30 pm:• Bring “Peace” pies & pie stories to share. Sweet or savory, empanadas, samosas pizza pie ~ any pie can be a “Peace Pie if served with that intention!• Our roundtable topic is immigration, focusing on the hopes, challenges, obstacles, & opportunities facing families starting a new life in ourcommunities.• Hosted in partnership with Amigos de las Americas Austin Chapter,Texans United For Families, Peace Through Pie, Multicultural RefugeeCoalition, Southwest Texas Methodist Federation for Social Action, and theHyde Park Neighborhood Association.

Last year the Sunday Supper dealt with food security. This year the topic will be immigration and social justice.

We have a potluck "Peace Through Pie" supper at which everyone brings some version of "pie" in the broadest interpretation of what that might mean. Some provide a cultural context for the food brought. Each table will have facilitators to help discuss the topic after the viewing of a relevant film.

Part of this event includes a follow-up action (on Jan 21 or other date tbd) that involves some sort of community action. Under consideration this year is a service project at Posada Esperanza, a transitional housing program for immigrant mothers and children escaping domestic and cultural violence.

While this is at a church it does not have religious overtones - at least it did not last year. Several CFIers attended without having to deal with any sort of evangelism.
