Oct 5  TRIVIA NIGHT at Café Express (sample quiz can be found on Meetup page: click on More at top; select Files; top item is the sample) The science trivia night was a good time for all (I think).

Oct 7  Cultural Literacy for Religion class continues

Oct 10 Discussion Group at Old Quarry library

Oct 14 Cultural Literacy for Religion class concludes the fall schedule; second half starts in January.

Oct 15 Food For Thought lecture: X-rated Stories about Jesus

Oct 18 Non-fiction Book Group (It’s Even Worse Than It Looks – that’s the name of the book, not a description of the event!)

Oct 19-21 The Texas Freethought Convention. Friday 2 events: for deep-pocketed supporters of Richard Dawkins there is a fund raising dinner with RD; for those with tight budgets there will be events as well as dining and drinking at Opal Divine’s on 6th Street On Saturday in the morning until about 1pm, a rally for reason at the south steps of the Capitol, featuring talks by Aron Ra, Sean Faircloth, and Richard Dawkins. On Sunday the atheists brunch, which may have a choice of venues. Plus the Atheist Experience TV show and dinner afterwards. Link to TFC schedule:

Oct 25 Science and Religion in fiction book group

Oct 26 Tour of biotechnology labs at UT [for FOCs only]; Hot Science, Cool Talks at UT sponsored by the Environmental Sciences Inst.

Oct 27 SAMHAIN [pronounced ‘sow hen’ – like the female pig and chicken] POTLUCK DINNER. This is our version of a Halloween Party, so costumes are encouraged – come as your favorite god, goddess, or other mythological being, or whatever!

Oct 28 Earth’s Last Birthday 2.0 – lectures and refreshments at Book People. Our second annual celebration of the end of the world as predicted by various sayers of sooth. Some day they may be correct – until then we will continue to party.
