Where we are:
We are excited about HB1126, filed by Rep Rafael Anchia for public funding of judicial elections in the Texas House, was referred to the Elections Committee on Feb. 20th. Once a bill has been filed, the first step is to wait until it is referred to committee, so you know who will be deciding its fate. From this point forward, we, as the public, have a vital role.
The next step:
It is necessary to support the bill so that it will get a hearing. I will be consulting with Rep. Anchia's Chief of Staff and the Legislative Director on Monday to be sure our draft action plan meets their needs and expectations and we will talk about this at our meeting.
At the meeting, we will talk about media outreach, contacting legislators, and growing our grassroots movement. Those who can give some time over the next few weeks will learn how to support this bill and help educate elected officials, the media, and Texans in general about public funding. You will really enjoy this opportunity to take action and learn more about our legislature on how policy is created.
I know this is last minute - so come when you can, even if you're late to the meeting - - we'll catch you up.
