When you come in, please ask where the Clean Elections Texas group is meeting - it is probably in the private room, but sometimes we have to move.
We have to do something! Can we stop the millions of dollars pouring into the pockets of politicians and drowning out our voices? Is there the will, the energy to work on this issue even during these busy times? YES! A growing number of people and organizations are taking up the standard to put a stop to this because its the effect of this money that is holding up all the progress we want -- from clean air to better mental health to a strong national grid to immigration. Vested interests on the part of a few have left "We THE People" out of the conversation.
Clean Elections Texas is taking steps locally and statewide to build coalitions to fight for true representative and transparent government. But first we have to broaden our circle to those who truly don't even know there is a problem. We have a lot of educating to do and it starts here at home.
We are working on several fronts here in Dallas: we held a focus group on judicial campaign funding last month, we are planning a panel for the general public in the spring, are providing speakers for various groups around the city, and working to meet with our local media and state legislators and their staff.
We need every activist's help - you may have a particular and different cause you work for, but that flow of money is a barrier to getting what you want done. Let's start educating ourselves and take the show on the road - to our local media, politicians, candidates, service group, friends, the general public.
I know -- you just don't have time! But, you do, if the task is clear and do-able. We can work together to cut the ties between funders and laws.
