Hack Night

Our monthly Hack Night has been gaining momentum, and is now a great event! There is no structure-- come with questions or a project that you'll be working on, and hear what others are up to in your community. Also feel free to suggest a discussion topic and follow up with the attendees there.

Thanks! I am just getting started and this was a friendly group! I learned a few things that will make it easier to keep learning when I'm on my own.

In case you're curious. You can use RbConfig::CONFIG['host_os'] to detect the host operating system.

Check out how Dr Nic is using it to load different file sytem event gems here in Appscrolls Guard template: https://github.com/drnic/appscrolls/blob/master/scrolls/guard.rb

Or a quick blog post on RbConfig here: http://technicalpickles.com/posts/spelunking-your-ruby-installs-configuration-with-rbconfig/

Hi everyone! IT-oLogy needs a way to help manage volunteers on projects and events. I couldn't find another open source project that can meet their needs and I thought this would be fun to try to build in RoR. I started building out the basics and have it posted as an open source app on Github... and the requirements on notepad paper. :-) Would you be interested in having this as a topic for Hack Night? I haven't been able to touch it for a month and this would give me a good excuse to get more work done on it and get the requirements posted.

What do you think? Thanks for considering!
