First Annual Meeting

  • Jan 26, 2014 · 1:00 PM
  • Uke Deck

Wow! Happy New Year! We have grown SO MUCH since I first joined a year ago. We are having more fun and playing more tunes in more places than ever before, and even doing some performing! Amazing.

With growth comes a need to get more organized. Several of us feel a meeting would be a great way to start the plan for 2014 and make sure folks get a chance to be heard. The items we need to tackle are (in no particular order):
Identity: A new name!
Meetups: how might we plan our activities to be attractive to members?
2014: What do we hope we will be by next year's meeting? In 5 years?
Management: how might we share responsibilities over time?
Marketing: How might we get the word out?
Financial and Sponsorships: How might we attract more benefits for our members? How might we benefit local music businesses in turn?

As a strategic planner, I've found that the best way to do this is to make it fun and break it up a bit, so we will start with some small group brainstorming, share results, play for a bit, vote on the key issues and decide our marching orders. Then more playing!

Please plan to attend** and have a voice in our group's 2014 plan. This is a democratic group, so we can be whoever we'd like to be.

The first 10 attendees who also RSVPd to this meetup will get a free copy of Ukulele Magazine! We will end with a call to action to really drive attendance at the Jake Concert on 2/3. Remember, only tickets sold using our discount code, UKENATION will count, so get out there and recruit!

**Newbies are especially welcome, we'd like to remove barriers and plan things that will get you out to our events!

I've worked up and agenda for our meeting tomorrow, so, as Tim said, bring your ideas! We've got a sizeable group coming; if you can't join us, but want to contribute, please message me and I will make sure it's heard. I've added the agenda to the description.

Door prize update: Ukulele Magazine sent me 10 free copies to give at our meeting! To encourage an on-time start and RSVPing to the meetup, I will give a mag to the first 10 folks who've arrive on Sunday that have also RSVP'd "yes" to this meetup!

It's my birthday on Sunday. I have no idea if the family has something planned for me already. I have RSVP'd "no" because I do not know. If I can squeeze it in I will join you all.
