1st Monday Uke Jam

This will be a recurring event taking place on the 1st Monday of each month. We are trying out Sam Ash for the venue, and for the March and April jams we will meet and practice songs for our World Parade & Festival performance on April 26...I don't want to dictate the songlist, because we need to play through a song as a group to know we like the feel,so please make song suggestions(and bring @8-10 copies of the song and be ready to help lead it)...So far I have hit upon Little Boxes (Pete Seeger) and Feelin' Groovy(Simon & Garfunkel) as possibles..and I will post chord charts for these asap...but my music knowledge stops around 1975 so I'd appreciate any feedback about more up to date songs we could try..;)

Great group, and a good start to picking songs for the festival.

I'm so bummed I cNt swing it. Weekdays are really hard, and with a deadline tomorrow, darn near impossible. Can't wait to hear how it went!

I added a file with chords for Little Boxes, and check out the cool version by Walk Off the Earth at http://youtu.be/LM8JhvfoqdA. We will bring copies of this and some of the songs we did for last year's festival.

Cool video. Their take on "somebody that I used to know" is interesting too.

Please check files for (2) songs with chords that are suggestions for our group to play for the festival. The first are lyrics and chords for "Feelin' Groovy" that has a nice descending progression, and the second is Jamaican Farewell (in the key of G) that I think has a nice cool strum that is accessible to "newbies". I am posting so y'all will have time to try them out before the meetup. Mahalo.

Thanks Chico. What are the first two chords you wrote in for 'Feeling Groovy'?

Richard, the first chord is some form of the F chord, and the second chord is some form of a C chord. If you listen to the sequence of chords, you can hear the notes descending on the C string (second string) F E D C. I prefer these chords to the ones in the yellow book (D A Bm7 A).

Is there a possibility of meeting on the SECOND Monday instead of on the first? That way the jamming opportunities are spaced a little more evenly throughout the month: first Sunday, second Monday, third Saturday.....

Its now the 4th Sunday and the first Monday is usually a week and a day away....if we go to 2nd monday it would butt up against 3rd Saturdays only 5 days away so no easy solution , probably just a nice thing that we now have so many meetup options per month

I will not be able to be there this time, but I hope to be able to support future Monday Jams
