Subject: [cheeky-drinks] Cheeky Drinks Newsletter August 2012
Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2012 08:42:20 -0400
Hi Cheeky Drinkers, I hope this newsletter finds you well. I'm not really one for doing newsletters, however I feel I need to get you up to date on a few things happening at Cheeky Drinks.
Firstly, can I say a huge thank you to all those Cheeky Drinkers who came to the Cheeky Drinks Birthday Bash on the 21st July at the The Pig and Whistle. It was a fantastic night and a celebration of all that is great about Cheeky Drinks and Meetup. Can I also take this opportunity to thank Julie Parsons for her contribution on the night with collecting money and handing out wristbands and drink cards.
Lets talk about money. Most Cheeky Drinks events are free, however the bigger events and special events such as the Birthday Bash, with 50+ people or more from now on will cost a small amount between $10-$20. The reason for this is that venues quite often require a minimum bar spend or charge room hire costs when accommodating a big group of people. I like to organise functions where we do have our own area especially when we are such a big group. I don't make money from Cheeky Drinks, and at times could end up paying a surplus. For example, I had to pay for the Birthday Bash function on my credit card ($835) and was relying on at least 50 people turning up and paying to cover my costs. Thankfully all squared up and i wasn't out of pocket.
Any money that is left over goes towards other events. For example the Alphabet Drinks money which I have been accumulating all year went towards the food at the Cheeky Drinks Birthday. If anyone has a problem with paying for these events you are under no obligation to attend. Most people have been really supportive in regard to this matter and I thank you for your support.
Paypal is coming to Cheeky Drinks. when there is a charge for an event, the payment method will be via paypal. This will mean that you will not be able to RSVP to the event unless you pay for the event up front (which will mean that I don't have to use my credit card......phew!) Unfortunately we all know there are people who RSVP and don't turn up. For example at the Birthday Bash there should have been 75 people there, however 59 people actually turned up and paid. I realise that for some of you Paypal is new territory, however if you can negotiate the Meetup website I'm sure that you will easily get use to Paypal. You can do Paypal easily with a credit or debit card. Quite a few different meetup groups are now using Paypal and this is something that Meetup encourages organisers to use.
There are a couple of good events coming up. On Friday 10th August we are going to the EKKA, meeting at the Jubilee Hotel at 5:30pm. On the 24th August I have scheduled a charity event for Daffodil Day at the Normanby Hotel. Please see the Cheeky Drinks website for more details.
If you have a spare minute, I have a poll going at the moment to give me some ideas on what sort of events you would like me to schedule. If you could complete that, I would appreciate it. You can find it by clicking on the "More" tab. You should see a little exclamation mark ! if you haven't completed the poll. If you have any other suggestions please email me.
Aren't you glad i don't write many newsletters!!! I look forward to catching up with you at a meetup soon.
