This is a meetup group to get people together over Chess boards in social environments and at various events to play Chess, socialize, and have some fun. The intent is to use getting together to play Chess as...an excuse to get together. We'll make new friends, and then have lots of opportunities to keep getting together to play, mingle, and socialize over things like "Chess and Happy Hour", "Chess and a picnic", "Chess and live music", etc
ALL levels of play are welcome. Beginner to advanced. Rated to "never played before". If you don't know how to play yet, download and look through the rule book, then come down to a meetup and watch. Or we'll teach you the basics and get you started. Or better yet, there's another meetup group in Denver that specifically teaches lessons! And don't worry, we'll be having some beginner-only meetups too, where you can learn and get some tips, encouragement, and help in an environment where everyone is just learning. It's a wonderful strategy game that will test your meddle and strategy skills and is a lot of fun too. It's been said,
"...art and chess are closely related, both are forms in which the self finds beauty and expression"
This group is just forming, but if you've wanted to play on a regular basis, or always wanted to learn how to play, now's the time! I intend for this group to have regular meetups of various types and at various venues, and recurring "same time, same place" meetups. Meetups may be at pubs, parks, conference rooms and comedy clubs. And regular recurring meetups so everyone knows "when there's always a game going". In a Nutz shell (sorry :) I just want to get as many people together, to play chess as often as possible.
There may also be tournaments with prizes, or ladder competitions eventually as we grow. We will have meetups geographically available for all, and around many other activities. A lot will depend upon membership inclination and preferences. I would love (and intend) to have some outdoor chess meetups this summer in parks, picnic areas and beside running creeks.
Join us, let's play some chess, and meet some new friends and chess partners!
